Installation of the Transducer Units


WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE SIDE STICK ASSEMBLY STAYS IN THE VERTICAL POSITION DURING THE MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES. IF NOT THERE IS A RISK OF SKYDROL LEAKAGE. SKYDROL CAN CAUSE INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
NOTE: This task is not applicable for the new-generation side-stick unit. For the new-generation side-stick unit, refer to the procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 27-92-41-400-802). To know if the side-stick installed on the aircraft is a new-generation side-stick unit, refer to the procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 27-92-41-860-801).

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 27-92-41-860-052-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the ground service network is energized (Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position at the access door 822.
   (3) Make sure that the access door 822 is open.
   (4) On the battery power center 105VU:
  • make sure that the protective cover is removed.
   (5) Make sure that the side stick assembly is installed on the 98D27303001001 HOLDER - SIDE STICK (Ref. AMM TASK 27-92-41-000-001).
   (6) Make sure that the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING is in position on the center universal joint of the side stick assembly.
   (7) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) which tells persons not to operate the side stick is in position on the side stick.
4. Procedure
Subtask 27-92-41-420-051-A
A. Installation of the Side Stick Transducer-Unit
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (4) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (5) Install the transducer unit (37) on the base of the side stick assembly and connect it to the electrical connectors (39).
   (6) Install the nuts (38) and tighten.
or install the washers (45), the bolts (46) and tighten.

B. Installation of the Tools
   (1) Disconnect the electrical connector (15).
     (a) FOR [4CE1] (SSTU-ROLL CTL, CAPT), [4CE3] (SSTU-PITCH CTL, CAPT)
Disconnect the 2197VC
     (b) FOR [4CE2] (SSTU-ROLL CTL, F/O), [4CE4] (SSTU-PITCH CTL, F/O)
Disconnect the 2188VC
   (2) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (3) Connect the 355M03200001 TOOL-28 VDC POWER SUPPLY to the electrical connector (15).
   (4) Connect the connector of the 355M03200001 TOOL-28 VDC POWER SUPPLY to the +28VDC connector of the aircraft.
   (5) Set the switch of the 355M03200001 TOOL-28 VDC POWER SUPPLY to the ON position.
NOTE: If these tools are not available, you can do the adjustment of the actuating linkage with only the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING in position (neutral reference).

C. Adjustment of the Actuating Linkage
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Install the 98DNSA20206080 RIGGING PIN (43) on the transducer unit (37).
   (2) Cut and discard the lockwire from the bolts (44).
   (3) Remove the washers (42) and the bolts (44).
   (4) Remove the rod retainers (40).
   (5) Connect one rod (32) to the transducer unit (37).
   (6) Install the bolt (33) with its bush.
NOTE: The bush is part of the bolt.
     (a) If you cannot install freely the bolt (33), adjust the length of the rod (32) as follows:
       1 Cut and discard the lockwires.
       2 Loosen the nuts (30) and disengage the lockwashers (31).
       3 Turn the rod body (32) until you can install the bolt (33).
       4 Engage the lockwashers (31) and tighten the nuts (30).
       5 Safety the nuts (30) with 14QFC1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES -.
   (7) Install the washer (36), the nut (34) and tighten.
   (8) Install the new AIPC 27-92-41-01-080 COTTER PIN (35) on the nut (34).
   (9) Make sure that you can remove and install freely the
98DNSA20206080 RIGGING PIN (43) on the transducer unit (37).
   (10) Connect the other rod (32) to the transducer unit (37).
   (11) Install the bolt (33) with its bush.
NOTE: The bush is part of the bolt.
     (a) If you cannot install freely the bolt (33), adjust the length of the rod (32) as follows:
       1 Cut and discard the lockwires.
       2 Loosen the nuts (30) and disengage the lockwashers (31).
       3 Turn the rod body (32) until you can install the bolt (33).
       4 Engage the lockwashers (31) and tighten the nuts (30).
       5 Safety the nuts (30) with 14QFC1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES -.
   (12) Make sure that you can remove and install freely the bolt (33).
   (13) Install the washer (36), the nut (34) and tighten.
   (14) Install the new AIPC 27-92-41-01-080 COTTER PIN (35).
   (15) Make sure that the clearance J2 between the ends of the bolts (33) is more than or equal to 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.) (Ref. Detail B).
   (16) Put the rod retainers (40) in position.
   (17) Install the washers (42), the bolts (44), the nuts (41).
   (18) TORQUE the nuts (41) to between 0.4 and 0.3 m.daN (35.40 and 26.55 lbf.in )
T.
   (19) Safety the bolts (44) with the nuts (41) of the rod (32) with 14QFC1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES -.
   (20) Make sure that you can remove and install freely the
98DNSA20206080 RIGGING PIN (43) on the transducer unit (37).
5. Close-up
Subtask 27-92-41-080-051-A
A. Removal of the Tools
   (1) Remove the 98DNSA20206080 RIGGING PIN from the transducer unit.
   (2) Set the switch of the 355M03200001 TOOL-28 VDC POWER SUPPLY to the OFF position.
   (3) Disconnect the 355M03200001 TOOL-28 VDC POWER SUPPLY from the electrical connector (15) and from the +28 VDC connector of the aircraft.
   (4) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (5) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (6) Connect the electrical connector (15).
   (7) Remove the 98D27303001001 HOLDER - SIDE STICK from the side stick assembly.
