3. Job Set-up

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (2) In the cockpit, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position to tell persons not to operate the slat controls.
   (3) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the hydraulic systems.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) is in position below the applicable access panel.
   (2) Make sure that the applicable access panel is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-006):
     (a) FOR [35CV] (WING TIP BRAKE)

     (b) FOR [36CV] (WING TIP BRAKE)
panel 622SB.
   (3) Make sure that the slats are fully retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).
   (4) In the cockpit, on panel 114VU, make sure that the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS is installed on the flap/slat control lever.
   (5) Make sure that the Blue and Green hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001).
   (6) Make sure that the Blue and Green hydraulic reservoirs are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (7) Make sure that the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT are installed on the inboard and outboard torque shafts (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-400-003).

4. Procedure
Subtask 27-81-51-420-054-B
A. Preparation for Installation
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN ONE TYPE OF LUBRICANT. GREASE AND ASSEMBLY PASTE DO NOT MIX.
   (1) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) If you install a new wing tip brake:
     (a) Lubricate the new O-rings (6), (11), (18) and (23) with Phosphate Ester Hydraulic Fluid-General Power - - (Material No.02ABA1) .
   (5) Install the adaptors (7), (10), (19) and (22) as follows:
     (a) Remove the blanking plugs from positions (16) and (17). Discard the related O-rings.
     (b) Make sure that the blanking plugs (3) and (4) are safetied.
     (c) Install the new O-rings as follows:

     (d) Install the adaptors (7), (10), (19) and (22) in their related position on the wing tip brake (2).
     (e) Install the T-piece on the wing tip brake (2).
   (6) Use Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.
08BAA9) and a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to clean the internal splines of the wing tip brake (2).
   (7) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) or Mineral Oil base Grease-Anti-Fretting Paste - (Material No.03FDB1) to:
  • The spline surfaces
  • The splines of the universal joints.
NOTE: For the lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
   (8) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) to the mating face of the wing tip brake (2).
   (9) Apply Release Agent-- PTFE Loaded - (Material No.14DDB1) to the mating face of the structure.
NOTE: It is recommended, but not mandatory, to apply Release Agent-- PTFE Loaded - (Material No.14DDB1) to the mating face of the structure. The Release Agent-- PTFE Loaded - (Material No.14DDB1) will let you remove the WTB easily.

B. Installation of the Slat Wing-Tip Brake
   (1) Hold the wing tip brake (2) near to its installed position. Attach the bonding strap (25) with the bolt (24), washer (26) and nut (27) to the bonding point (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (2) Put the wing tip brake (2) in position on the inboard face of the rib. Make sure that the locating stud is engaged.
   (3) Hold the wing tip brake (2) and install the nuts (12).
   (4) TORQUE the nuts (12) to between 0.55 and 0.5 m.daN (48.67 and 44.25 lbf.in ) T.
   (5) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.
06ABA1) to the nuts (12) and the locating stud.
   (6) Install the universal joint (13) in the wing tip brake (2) so that the bolt holes in the flanges are aligned.
   (7) Install the bolts (15) and nuts (14).
   (8) TORQUE the nuts (14) to between 1.24 and 1.02 m.daN (109.73 and 90.27 lbf.in ) T.
   (9) If you removed the middle part of the torque shaft, install it (
Ref. AMM TASK 27-84-45-400-007):
     (a) For the left wing:
  • FIN 6042CM (inboard of the wing tip brake)
  • FIN 6044CM (outboard of the wing tip brake).
     (b) For the right wing:
  • FIN 6092CM (inboard of the wing tip brake)
  • FIN 6094CM (outboard of the wing tip brake).
   (10) Make sure that you cannot see the groove on the splines of the universal joints.
   (11) Apply a layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Soft Film - (Material No.12ACC1) to:
  • The nuts (14), the bolts (15) and the studs on the the wing-tip brake (2)
  • The flanges of the universal joint (13) and the torque shaft.
   (12) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
   (13) Make sure that the ends of the hydraulic lines are clean and in the correct condition.
   (14) Lubricate the coupling nuts on the hydraulic lines (8), (9), (20) and (21) with Phosphate Ester Hydraulic Fluid-General Power - - (Material No.02ABA1) .
   (15) Connect the hydraulic lines (8), (9), (20) and (21) to the wing tip brake (2) and tighten the coupling nuts.
   (16) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (17) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (18) Connect the electrical connectors (1) and (5) to the wing tip brake (2).
   (19) Connect the bonding strap (25) to the T-piece with the bolt (24), washer (26) and nut (27) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Fill the Blue and the Green Hydraulic reservoirs (Ref. AMM TASK 12-12-29-611-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-12-29-611-002).
   (2) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap/slat control lever.
   (3) Remove the 98D27504030001 LOCK-TORQUE SHAFT (FLAPS AND SLATS) WITH CLAMP-PIVOT from each torque shaft (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-000-003).
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).

F. Pressurize the Hydraulic Systems
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE CONTROLS AGREE WITH THE POSITION OF THE ITEMS THEY OPERATE BEFORE YOU PRESSURIZE A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED ITEMS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Pressurize the Blue and the Green hydraulic systems (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-863-003) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-863-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-863-001).

G. Test
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE POWER TRANSMISSION SYSTEM IS COMPLETE BEFORE YOU DO A PREPARATION FOR TEST OR A TEST.
   (1) Examine the wing tip brake and the related hydraulic connections for leaks.
   (2) Do an operational test of the slats wing-tip brake (Ref. AMM TASK 27-81-00-710-001).
   (3) Do a leak check on the slats wing-tip brake:
  • Examine the four witness drain holes in the wing tip brake for leaks.
NOTE: This area is not pressurized during normal operation, so leaks will only show after the operational test.
5. Close-up

A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Depressurize the Blue and the Green hydraulic systems (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-864-001).

B. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the applicable access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-400-006):
     (a) FOR [35CV] (WING TIP BRAKE)

     (b) FOR [36CV] (WING TIP BRAKE)
install 622SB.

C. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the safety barriers.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
