NOTE: If you want to do this inspection at the same time as MPD tasks 274451-10-1 and 274451-11-1, make sure that:

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the aircraft electrical circuits are de-energized
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
(2) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
Subtask 27-44-51-941-068-A (1) Make sure that the aircraft electrical circuits are de-energized

(2) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
B. Safety Precautions
(1) In the cockpit:
(a) On the pitch-trim control wheels, put the 98D27403500000 PITCH TRIM CONTROL LOCKING (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-001).
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position:
(a) Open access doors 197CB, 198CB and 197EB.
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position:
Subtask 27-44-51-010-057-A (1) In the cockpit:
(a) On the pitch-trim control wheels, put the 98D27403500000 PITCH TRIM CONTROL LOCKING (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-001).
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position:
- On the overhead panel, on the HYD section of panel 40VU, to tell persons not to pressurize the hydraulic systems
- On the pitch-trim control wheels, to tell persons not to operate it.
(a) Open access doors 197CB, 198CB and 197EB.
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position:
- On the ground service panel of the Yellow hydraulic system, to tell persons not to pressurize the Yellow hydraulic system
- On the ground service panel of the Green hydraulic system, to tell persons not to pressurize the Green hydraulic system
- On the ground service panel of the Blue hydraulic system, to tell persons not to pressurize the Blue hydraulic system.
C. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below access door 312AR.
(2) Open access door 312AR.
(3) Put the MAT - PROTECTIVE in the area of the Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer (THS) actuator to prevent damage to the structure.
4. Procedure(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below access door 312AR.
(2) Open access door 312AR.
(3) Put the MAT - PROTECTIVE in the area of the Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer (THS) actuator to prevent damage to the structure.
Subtask 27-44-51-220-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Inspection
(1) Carefully examine the upper attachments (2),(3) and the lower attachments (6) of the THSA.
(2) Clean:
(3) Use a FLASHLIGHT and examine the primary upper attachments (2) for:
Subtask 27-44-51-220-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Carefully examine the upper attachments (2),(3) and the lower attachments (6) of the THSA.
(2) Clean:
- the primary upper attachments (2),
- the secondary upper attachments (3),
- the primary lower attachments (6),
- the secondary lower attachments at the nut assembly (8)
(3) Use a FLASHLIGHT and examine the primary upper attachments (2) for:
- cracks,
- dents,
- corrosion,
- protective finish,
- correct attachment.

NOTE: There can be a light mark on the tie bar of the upper attachment secondary load path. This circular mark is a cosmetic mark only.
This mark is permitted and will not have negative effects on the function, performance or life time of the THSA. Refer to Goodrich SB for more data (Ref. SB 47145-27-10).
(5) Use a FLASHLIGHT and examine the primary lower attachments (6) for: This mark is permitted and will not have negative effects on the function, performance or life time of the THSA. Refer to Goodrich SB for more data (Ref. SB 47145-27-10).

(2) Clean the attachments that follow with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) and let them dry:

(b) On the Electrical Load Sensing Device (ELSD):
1 Make sure that the two teeth on the two opposite sides of each locking washer are bent.
(5) With the FLASHLIGHT, examine the primary lower attachments (6) for:

5. Close-up(1) Carefully examine the upper attachments (2) and (3), and the lower attachments (6) of the THS actuator.
(2) Clean the attachments that follow with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) and let them dry:
- The primary upper attachments (2)
- The secondary upper attachments (3)
- The primary lower attachments (6)
- The secondary lower attachments at the nut assembly (8).
- Cracks
- Dents
- Corrosion
- Protective finish.
(4) With the FLASHLIGHT, examine the secondary upper attachments (3) for:
- Cracks
- Dents
- Corrosion
- Protective finish.
NOTE: There can be a small circular mark on the tie bar of the upper-attachment secondary load-path.
This mark is permitted and will not have unwanted effects on the operation, performance or life time of the THS actuator. For more data, you can refer to the Goodrich Service Bulletin (SB) (Ref. SB 47145-27-10).
(a) Make sure that the secondary upper attachments (3) are correctly attached.This mark is permitted and will not have unwanted effects on the operation, performance or life time of the THS actuator. For more data, you can refer to the Goodrich Service Bulletin (SB) (Ref. SB 47145-27-10).
(b) On the Electrical Load Sensing Device (ELSD):
1 Make sure that the two teeth on the two opposite sides of each locking washer are bent.
(5) With the FLASHLIGHT, examine the primary lower attachments (6) for:
- Cracks
- Dents
- Corrosion
- Protective finish.
(6) With the FLASHLIGHT, examine the secondary lower attachments at the nut assembly (8) for:
- Cracks
- Dents
- Corrosion
- Protective finish.

A. Close Access
(1) Remove the MAT - PROTECTIVE.
(2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(3) Close access door 312AR.
(4) Close access doors 197CB, 198CB and 197EB.
Subtask 27-44-51-942-067-A (1) Remove the MAT - PROTECTIVE.
(2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(3) Close access door 312AR.
(4) Close access doors 197CB, 198CB and 197EB.
B. Put the aircraft back to the serviceable condition.
(1) In the cockpit: Remove the 98D27403500000 PITCH TRIM CONTROL LOCKING (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-080-001).
(2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove all the fixtures, tools, test and support equipment used during this procedure.
(1) In the cockpit: Remove the 98D27403500000 PITCH TRIM CONTROL LOCKING (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-080-001).
(2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove all the fixtures, tools, test and support equipment used during this procedure.
