Removal of the Aileron Servo Control

CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE TASKS ON THE WING TRAILING EDGE:
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (2) In the cockpit, put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons:
     (a) Not to pressurize the Green and Blue hydraulic systems.
     (b) Not to operate the flight controls.
   (3) Obey the hydraulic safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-910-002).

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: OBEY THE HYDRAULIC SAFETY PROCEDURES.
   (1) Disconnect the isolation coupling of the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-860-001).
   (2) Make sure that the Blue and the Green Hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003), (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001).
   (3) Depressurize the applicable reservoirs (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).

D. Get Access
   (1) Put on a safety harness:
WARNING: BEFORE YOU START WORK, YOU MUST PUT ON A SAFETY HARNESS AND ATTACH IT TO THE ACCESS PLATFORM. WITHOUT A SAFETY HARNESS, YOU CAN FALL. THIS CAN KILL YOU OR CAUSE YOU INJURY.
     (a) Put on and attach a 98L12003001000 HARNESS,SAFETY before you start work in the work area.
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) in position below the applicable zone 575(675).
   (3) Remove the applicable access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-000-007), (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-000-005) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-000-011):
     (a) FOR [33CE1] (SERVO CTL-L AILERON, INBD G), [33CE3] (SERVO CTL-L AILERON, OUTBD B)
remove 575AT 575KB 590AB.
     (b) FOR [33CE2] (SERVO CTL-R AILERON, INBD G), [33CE4] (SERVO CTL-R AILERON, OUTBD B)
remove 675AT 675KB 690AB.
4. Procedure
Subtask 27-14-51-020-062-C
A. Removal of the Aileron Servo Control
   (1) Manually put and hold the aileron in the fully up position.
   (2) Install the 98D27104005000 AILERON COLLAR on the aileron servo control that you do not remove during this procedure.
   (3) FOR [33CE1] (SERVO CTL-L AILERON, INBD G), [33CE2] (SERVO CTL-R AILERON, INBD G)
     (a) Disconnect the electrical connector (13).
     (b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
     (c) Remove the lockwire:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Remove and discard the lockwire from the bolts (12).
     (d) Remove the bolts (12), washers (11) and clamp blocks (9).
     (e) At the pipe brackets, near to the inboard and outboard sides of the aileron servo control (25):
       1 Remove the nuts (32), bolts (28) and washers (29).
       2 Disassemble and remove the tubes (30) and the clamp blocks (31).
     (f) Disconnect and remove the return pipe (14) and the pressure pipe (24).
     (g) Put a PLUG - BLANKING or a CAP - BLANKING on the hydraulic connections and the disconnected line ends.
     (h) At the aileron jack bracket:
       1 Remove the nut (3), washer (2) and bolt (1).
       2 Remove the locking plate (26).
     (i) At the rear-spar jack bracket:
       1 Remove the nut (19), washer (20) and bolt (21).
       2 Remove the locking plate (22).
     (j) Remove and discard the cotter pins (4) and (15) from the locking caps (5) and (16).
     (k) Remove the locking caps (5) and (16), nuts (6) and (17) and washers (7) and (18).
   (4) FOR [33CE3] (SERVO CTL-L AILERON, OUTBD B), [33CE4] (SERVO CTL-R AILERON, OUTBD B)
     (a) Disconnect the electrical connector (53).
     (b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
     (c) Remove the lockwire:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Remove and discard the lockwire from the bolts (52).
     (d) Remove the bolts (52), washers (51) and clamp blocks (49).
     (e) At the pipe brackets, near to the inboard and outboard sides of the aileron servo control (64):
       1 Remove the nuts (70), bolts (67) and washers (68).
       2 Disassemble and remove the clamp blocks (69).
     (f) Disconnect and remove the return pipe (54) and the pressure pipe (63).
     (g) Put a PLUG - BLANKING or a CAP - BLANKING on the hydraulic connections and the disconnected line ends.
     (h) At the aileron jack bracket:
       1 Remove the nut (43), washer (42) and bolt (41).
       2 Remove the locking plate (65).
     (i) At the rear-spar jack bracket:
       1 Remove the nut (60).
       2 Remove the locking plate (61) from the stud (59).
     (j) Remove and discard the cotter pins (44) and (55) from the locking caps (45) and (56).
     (k) Remove the locking caps (45) and (56), nuts (46) and (57) and washers (47) and (58).

B. Complete the Removal of the Aileron Servo Control
NOTE: The weight of the aileron servo control is 7.4 kg (16.3 lb).
   (1) To decrease the length of the piston rod, remove the 98D27104005000 AILERON COLLAR from the aileron servo control that you do not remove during this procedure.
   (2) Manually move the aileron to the down position.
   (3) FOR [33CE1] (SERVO CTL-L AILERON, INBD G), [33CE2] (SERVO CTL-R AILERON, INBD G)
     (a) Hold the aileron servo control (25) and remove the pin (27).
     (b) Manually move the aileron to the fully up position.
     (c) Install the 98D27104005000 AILERON COLLAR on the aileron servo control that is not removed.
     (d) Remove the pin (23).
     (e) Remove the aileron servo control (25) from the aircraft.
     (f) Remove the flanged bush (8) from each aileron jack bracket.
     (g) Remove the flanged bush (10) from each rear-spar jack bracket.
     (h) Do not remove the structural bush (33) from:
  • The aileron jack bracket
  • The rear-spar jack bracket.
     (i) Install these parts on the removed aileron servo control (25):
  • The clamp blocks (9)
  • The washers (11)
  • The bolts (12).
NOTE: The clamp blocks (9), washers (11) and bolts (12) must stay with the removed aileron servo control (25).
   (4) FOR [33CE3] (SERVO CTL-L AILERON, OUTBD B), [33CE4] (SERVO CTL-R AILERON, OUTBD B)
     (a) Hold the aileron servo control (64) and remove the pin (66).
     (b) Manually move the aileron to the fully up position.
     (c) Install the 98D27104005000 AILERON COLLAR on the aileron servo control that is not removed.
     (d) Remove the pin (62).
     (e) Remove the aileron servo control (64) from the aircraft.
     (f) Remove the flanged bush (48) from each aileron jack bracket.
     (g) Remove the flanged bush (50) from each rear-spar jack bracket.
     (h) Do not remove the structural bush (71) from:
  • The aileron jack bracket
  • The rear-spar jack bracket.
     (i) Install these parts on the removed aileron servo control (64):
  • The clamp blocks (49)
  • The washers (51)
  • The bolts (52).
NOTE: The clamp blocks (49), washers (51) and bolts (52) must stay with the removed aileron servo control (64).
