A. Make sure that the ground service network is energized (Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).

B. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

E. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).

   (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl-doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M (3 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 26-12-17-420-066-A
A. Installation of the Core Engine Fire Detection Elements with the Rail
   (1) Lubricate the threads of the bolts (6) and the screws (27) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
   (2) Before you install the left fire detection element rail (3) and the right fire detection element rail (22), examine the assembly as follows:
     (a) Make sure that the fire loop and responders (2) are correctly installed on the left and right fire detection element rails (3) and (22) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-17-400-804).
     (b) Make sure that the bolt (17) and nut (18) that connect the left and right rails (3) and (22) are installed but not tightened. This connection is a joint that moves to permit installation of the left and right rails.
     (c) Make sure that the 15 loop clamps (5) are installed in the correct position around the left and right rails (3) and (22). Use the record made during the disassembly to get the correct positions.
   (3) Use two mechanics to carefully put the core engine fire detection elements in position on the engine. Align the tabs of the loop clamps (5) with the mating engine brackets (4), (7), (8), (9), (10), (11), (12), (13), (14), (15), (16), (19), (20), (21) and (23).
NOTE: During installation of the left fire detection element rail, a potential clash exists between the rail and an EBU duct. It may be necessary for a mechanic to clamp the duct by hand to prevent the clash.
   (4) Install and hand-tighten the 15 bolts (6) to attach the loop clamps (5) to the engine.
   (5) TORQUE the 15 bolts (6) at each of the 15 loop clamps (5) to between 0.79 and 0.68 m.daN (69.91 and 60.18 lbf.in ) T.
   (6) TORQUE the nut (18) at the joint between the left and right rails (3) and (22) to between 0.79 and 0.68 m.daN (69.91 and 60.18 lbf.in )
T.
   (7) On the left side of the engine, connect the harness (1) to the left fire detection element rail (3) as follows:
     (a) Put the harness (1) in position and put the two ring connectors on the two studs of the responder (2).
NOTE: The larger ring is installed on the larger stud and the smaller ring is installed on the smaller stud. The different sizes are necessary to make sure that the electrical polarity is correct.
     (b) Install the two nuts (24) and (25) on the two studs of the responder (2).
   (8) On the right side of the engine, connect the harness (1) to the right fire detection element rail (22) as follows:
     (a) Put the harness (1) in position and put the two ring connectors on the two studs of the responder (2).
NOTE: The larger ring is installed on the larger stud and the smaller ring is installed on the smaller stud. The different sizes are necessary to make sure that the electrical polarity is correct.
     (b) Install the two nuts (24) and (25) on the two studs of the responder (2).
   (9) On the left side and on the right side of the engine, complete the connection of the harness (1) to the responders (2) as follows:
     (a) TORQUE the larger nuts (24) to between 0.62 and 0.56 m.daN (54.87 and 49.56 lbf.in )

     (b) TORQUE the smaller nuts (25) to between 0.51 and 0.45 m.daN (45.13 and 39.82 lbf.in )

     (c) Install the screws (27) and the retainers (26) to attach the left and right harnesses (1) to the responders (2).
     (d) TORQUE the screws (27) to between 0.34 and 0.28 m.daN (30.09 and 24.78 lbf.in )
