4. Procedure
Subtask 26-12-17-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Core Fire Detectors
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
CAUTION: INSTALL THE FIRE DETECTORS AND THE RAIL AS ONE ASSEMBLY. THE FIRE DETECTOR SENSOR ELEMENTS CAN BE DAMAGED IF NOT SUPPORTED BY THE RAIL.
   (1) Make sure that there is a good electrical bond between the sensors (5, 115), the rail assembly (20) and the engine bracket:
     (a) Clean all bonding surfaces with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) .
     (b) Dry the bonding surfaces with a clean cloth before the solvent evaporates.
   (2) Install the fire detector sensors on the engine brackets, as follows:
NOTE: Sensor tubes are to follow contour of rail smoothly. Minimum bend radius 0.35 IN. (8.89 MM).
NOTE: Maximum overhang of fire detector sensor tube 1 IN. (25.40 MM). Sensor tube termination through dual liner as required.
NOTE: 0.1 IN. (2.54 MM) clearance between two sensor tubes.
NOTE: 0.125 IN. (3.17 MM) minimum clearance between fire detector sensor tubes and metal band of clamp. Rotate clamp so that clamp minimum envelope is next to tube.
     (a) Put the fire detector (4001WD1) in place on the engine bracket and attach it with the bolt (65), washer (70), and nut (75) (one location only).
     (b) Put the fire detector (4001WD2) in place on the engine bracket and attach it with the bolts (65), washers (70), and nuts (75) (2 locations).
     (c) TORQUE the nuts (75) to between 25 and 20 lbf.in (0.28 and 0.23 m.daN ) T.
   (3) Do an electrical resistance test to make sure there is a good electrical bond between the fire detector, the rail assembly, and the engine bracket:
     (a) Put one lead of the MILLIOHMMETER 0.01 OHM - LOW VOLTAGE on the fire detector (5) or (115).
     (b) Put the other lead of the ohmmeter on the engine bracket.
     (c) The resistance measured between the ohmmeter leads must be 0.0025 ohm or less.
     (d) If the resistance is more than 0.0025 ohm, remove the fasteners and clean the bonding surfaces again. Do this procedure until the resistance indication is in the correct range.
   (4) Install the wire harness (4204KS) on the loop A fire-detector sensor (4001WD1):
     (a) Put the harness wire (55) on terminal C of the sensor (5) and attach it with nut (50).
     (b) TORQUE the nut (50) to between 25 and 20 lbf.in (0.28 and 0.23 m.daN )
T.
     (c) Put the harness wire (60) on terminal A of the sensor (5) and attach it with the nut (45).
     (d) Put the lock washer (85), flat washer (70) and ground wire (80) on the ground stud (65).
     (e) Put the ground stud through the sensor and engine bracket and attach it with the washer (70) and nut (45).
     (f) TORQUE the nuts (45) to between 30 and 25 lbf.in (0.34 and 0.28 m.daN )
T.
     (g) Put the clamp (40) on the harness (4204KS) and attach it with the screws (35).
     (h) TORQUE the screws (35) to between 10 and 8 lbf.in (0.11 and 0.09 m.daN )
T.
     (i) Lock the screws (35) with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia.
   (5) Install the wire harness (4205KS) on the loop B fire-detector sensor (4001WD2):
     (a) Put the harness wire (110) on terminal C of the sensor (115) and attach it with nut (50).
     (b) TORQUE the nut (50) to between 25 and 20 lbf.in (0.28 and 0.23 m.daN )
T.
     (c) Put the harness wire (120) on terminal A of the sensor (115) and attach it with nut (45).
     (d) Put the lock washer (85), flat washer (70) and ground wire (105) on the ground stud (65).
     (e) Put the ground stud through the sensor and engine bracket and attach it with the washer (70) and nut (45).
     (f) TORQUE the nuts (45) to between 30 and 25 lbf.in (0.34 and 0.28 m.daN )
T.
     (g) Put the clamp (40) on the harness (4205KS) and attach it with the screws (35).
   (6) Connect the rail assembly (20) to the engine brackets, as follows:
     (a) Make sure that the fire detector rail assembly (20) is in the correct position on the engine.
     (b) Move the center mount clamps (15) in position on mounting bracket (30) (10 locations).
     (c) Turn the screw (10) to attach the clamp (15) to the bracket (30).
