Removal of the Forward Fire/Overheat Detector

YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). F. Get Access

4. Procedure(1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

A. Removal of the Forward Fire/Overheat Detector
(2) Disconnect the loop-B fire harness from the fire detector element (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-62-000-802).
(3) Remove the forward fire detector elements (1) and (2) as follows:
(a) Remove the four screws (3) and (7) and four washers (4) and (6) that attach the forward fire detector element (2) to the mounting bracket.
(b) Remove the three screws (5) and (7) and the three washers (6) and (8) that attach the forward fire detector element (1) to the mounting bracket.
(c) Turn the 17 screws of the 17 clamp assemblies (9) counterclockwise.
(d) Open the 17 clamp assemblies (9) to remove the two dual-element grommets (10), the 32 single-element grommets (11) and the forward fire detector elements (1) and (2) from the fire detection support rail and engine.
(e) Remove the grommets (10) and (11) from the forward fire detector elements (1) and (2). Keep the grommets for installation.
(4) Installation of protection covers
CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE ELECTRICAL OR PNEUMATIC TOOLS TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE QUARTER-TURN FASTENER ON THE FIRE DETECTOR CLAMP. ONLY USE A MANUAL SCREWDRIVER. ELECTRICAL OR PNEUMATIC TOOLS WILL CAUSE THE FASTENER TO TURN TOO MUCH AND POSSIBLY TO BREAK.
(1) Disconnect the loop-A electrical rail assembly from the fire detector element (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-61-000-802). (2) Disconnect the loop-B fire harness from the fire detector element (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-62-000-802).
(3) Remove the forward fire detector elements (1) and (2) as follows:
(a) Remove the four screws (3) and (7) and four washers (4) and (6) that attach the forward fire detector element (2) to the mounting bracket.
(b) Remove the three screws (5) and (7) and the three washers (6) and (8) that attach the forward fire detector element (1) to the mounting bracket.
(c) Turn the 17 screws of the 17 clamp assemblies (9) counterclockwise.
(d) Open the 17 clamp assemblies (9) to remove the two dual-element grommets (10), the 32 single-element grommets (11) and the forward fire detector elements (1) and (2) from the fire detection support rail and engine.
(e) Remove the grommets (10) and (11) from the forward fire detector elements (1) and (2). Keep the grommets for installation.
(4) Installation of protection covers
CAUTION:
INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(a) Make sure that you install COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
