Visual Inspection of the Engine Fire-Detection System
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

B. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the ENG/MODE selector switch and the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
(d) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

E. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Ground Maintenance
Subtask 26-12-00-010-061-A WARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809). F. Get Access
(1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):

4. Procedure(1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE ELECTRICAL OR PNEUMATIC TOOLS TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE QUARTER-TURN FASTENER ON THE FIRE DETECTOR CLAMP. ONLY USE A MANUAL SCREWDRIVER. ELECTRICAL OR PNEUMATIC TOOLS WILL CAUSE THE FASTENER TO TURN TOO MUCH AND POSSIBLY TO BREAK.
CAUTION:
DO NOT BEND THE MANIFOLD OF THE SENSING ELEMENT. IF YOU BEND IT, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE WELDING.
Subtask 26-12-00-210-066-A A. Visual Inspection of the Pylon Fire Detectors
(1) Make sure that the minimum permitted bend radius through the manifold tube and the braze is 150 mm (6 in.) (Detail C).
(2) Make sure that the bend radius of the sensing elements (1) is a minimum of 9.5 mm (0.37 in.) (Detail C). Use the 98D26203003001 CAMBERING TOOL to make sure that the pylon fire-detector loop is bent correctly.
(3) Make sure that the minimum distance between the sensing elements (1) and their supports is 5 mm (0.20 in.) (Details D, E and F).
(4) Make sure that all the clamps (3) and (6) are correctly closed and the sensing elements (1) are correctly installed. If not, close the clamps (3) and (6) with the quarter-turn fasteners (2) and (5) and/or install the sensing element(s) (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-16-400-805).
(5) Make sure that the end of the sensing element (1) is at a maximum distance of 25.4 mm (1.00 in.) from the clamp (6).
(6) Make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire detectors, the rail assemblies (4) and the related brackets.
(7) To prevent short-circuits, make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations.
(8) For MEGGITT pylon fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.

(7) To prevent short-circuits, make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations.
(8) For MEGGITT pylon fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.
B. Visual Inspection of the Core Fire Detectors
(1) Make sure that the sensing elements (4) align with the contour of the fire-detection support rail correctly and that the minimum bend radius is 9.5 mm (0.37 in.).
(2) Make sure that the distance between two clamp clips (9) is between 76.2 mm (3.00 in.) and 101.6 mm (4.00 in.).
(3) Make sure that all the clamp clips (9) and bolts (10) are installed and closed correctly. If not, close the clamp clips (9) with the bolts (10) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-17-400-804).
(4) Make sure that the maximum distance between the tube braze of the responders (7) and (11) and the first clamp clip is 76.2 mm (3.00 in.).
(5) Make sure that the end of the sensing element (8) is at a maximum distance of 25.4 mm (1.00 in.) from the clamp clip (9).
(6) Make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire detectors, the rail assemblies and the related brackets.
(7) To prevent short-circuits, make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations.
(8) For MEGGITT core fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.

(7) To prevent short-circuits, make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations.
(8) For MEGGITT core fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.
C. Visual Inspection of the Fan Area Fire-Detectors
(1) Make sure that the sensing elements (16) and (19) align with the contour of the related fire-detection support-rail correctly and that the minimum bend radius is 9.5 mm (0.37 in.).
(2) Make sure that the distance between two clamp clips (13) is between 76.2 mm (3.00 in.) and 101.6 mm (4.00 in.).
(3) Make sure that all the clamp clips (13) and bolts (14) are installed and closed correctly. If not, close the clamp clips (13) with the bolts (14) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-18-400-801).
(4) Make sure that the maximum distance between the tube braze of the responders (12), (15), (17) and (18) and the first clamp clip is 76.2 mm (3.00 in.).
(5) Make sure that the ends of the sensing elements (16) and (19) are at a maximum distance of 25.4 mm (1.00 in.) from the clamp clip (13).
(6) Make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire detectors, the rail assemblies and the related brackets.
(7) To prevent short-circuits, make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations.
(8) For MEGGITT fan area fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.
Subtask 26-12-00-100-050-A (1) Make sure that the sensing elements (16) and (19) align with the contour of the related fire-detection support-rail correctly and that the minimum bend radius is 9.5 mm (0.37 in.).
(2) Make sure that the distance between two clamp clips (13) is between 76.2 mm (3.00 in.) and 101.6 mm (4.00 in.).
(3) Make sure that all the clamp clips (13) and bolts (14) are installed and closed correctly. If not, close the clamp clips (13) with the bolts (14) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-18-400-801).
(4) Make sure that the maximum distance between the tube braze of the responders (12), (15), (17) and (18) and the first clamp clip is 76.2 mm (3.00 in.).
(5) Make sure that the ends of the sensing elements (16) and (19) are at a maximum distance of 25.4 mm (1.00 in.) from the clamp clip (13).
(6) Make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire detectors, the rail assemblies and the related brackets.
(7) To prevent short-circuits, make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations.
(8) For MEGGITT fan area fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.
D. Cleaning of the MEGGITT Fire Detectors
(1) Use a BRUSH - NON METALLIC and WATER - DEIONIZED to clean the ceramic insulation header and studs of the fire detectors.
(2) Dry the fire detectors fully.
5. Close-up(1) Use a BRUSH - NON METALLIC and WATER - DEIONIZED to clean the ceramic insulation header and studs of the fire detectors.
(2) Dry the fire detectors fully.
