A. Visual Inspection of the Pylon Fire Detectors
(2) Make sure that the bend radius of the sensing elements (1) is 9.5 mm (0.37 in.) minimum (Detail C). Use the 98D26203003001 CAMBERING TOOL to make sure that the pylon fire-detector loop is bent correctly.
(3) Make sure that the minimum distance between the sensing elements (1) and their supports is 2.54 mm (0.10 in.) (Details D and E).
(4) Make sure that all the clamps (3) and (6) are correctly closed and the sensing elements (1) are correctly installed. If not, (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-16-400-803) to close the clamp(s) (3) and (6) with the quarter-turn fastener(s) (2) and (5) and/or install the sensing element(s) (1).
(5) Make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the fire detectors, the rail assemblies (4) and the related brackets.
(6) Make sure that there is no damage or chafing on the detection harness insulations to prevent short-circuit.
(7) For MEGGITT pylon fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.

DO NOT USE ELECTRICAL OR PNEUMATIC TOOLS TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE QUARTER-TURN FASTENER ON THE FIRE DETECTOR CLAMP. ONLY USE A MANUAL SCREWDRIVER. ELECTRICAL OR PNEUMATIC TOOLS WILL CAUSE THE FASTENER TO TURN TOO MUCH AND POSSIBLY TO BREAK.
CAUTION:
DO NOT BEND THE MANIFOLD OF THE SENSING ELEMENT. IF YOU BEND IT, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE WELDING.
