Visual Inspection of the Engine Fire-Detection System
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

B. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that the engine shutdown occurred five minutes or more before you do this procedure.
(2) In the cockpit, on the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the MASTER 1(2) control switch is set to the OFF position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN/START selector switch is in the NORM position.
(c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine 1(2).
(3) In the cockpit, on the overhead panel, on the ENG section of panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Install a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

E. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
Subtask 26-12-00-010-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041). F. Get Access
(1) Open the thrust reverser doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-040):
(a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

4. Procedure(1) Open the thrust reverser doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-040):

Subtask 26-12-00-210-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Visual Inspection of the Pylon Fire-Detection Loops
(1) Make sure that the straight length of the sensing element from the responder head welding is a minimum of 20 mm (0.7874 in.) (see Detail A).
(2) Make sure that the radius of the sensing element is a minimum of 9.5 mm (0.3740 in.).
(3) Make sure that the minimum distance between the sensing element and its support is 6 mm (0.2362 in.) (see Detail B).
(4) Make sure that the maximum distance between the ends of the two sensing elements and the last clamp is 25.4 mm (1.0000 in.) (see Detail C).
(5) Make sure that all the bushes are in good condition. If they are not, replace them (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-16-000-001) (see Details B and C).
(6) Make sure that there is no damage or signs of chafing on the fire detectors, the rail assemblies and the related brackets.
(7) To prevent short circuits, make sure that there is no damage or signs of chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations.
(8) For MEGGITT pylon fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.
Subtask 26-12-00-210-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the straight length of the sensing element from the responder head welding is a minimum of 20 mm (0.7874 in.) (see Detail A).

(5) Make sure that all the bushes are in good condition. If they are not, replace them (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-16-000-001) (see Details B and C).
(6) Make sure that there is no damage or signs of chafing on the fire detectors, the rail assemblies and the related brackets.
(7) To prevent short circuits, make sure that there is no damage or signs of chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations.
(8) For MEGGITT pylon fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.
B. Visual Inspection of the Fan Fire-Detection Loops
(1) Make sure that the straight length of the sensing element from the responder head welding is a minimum of 20 mm (0.7874 in.).
(2) Make sure that the minimum distance between the sensing element and its support is 6 mm (0.2362 in.).
(3) Make sure that all the grommets are in good condition. If they are not, replace them (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-15-000-042) (see Detail B).
(4) Make sure that there is no damage or signs of chafing on the rail assemblies and the related brackets of the fan fire detectors.
(5) Make sure that there is no damage or signs of chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations to prevent short circuits.
(6) Make sure that there are no signs of damage on the sensing element:
(8) Do not replace the fan fire detector if there are dents or nicks or minor pitting on the sensing element.
(9) Make sure that there are no signs of chafing on the sensing element. If there are signs of chafing, do a check of the installation of the fan fire detector (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-15-400-042).
(10) For Meggitt fan fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.
Subtask 26-12-00-210-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the straight length of the sensing element from the responder head welding is a minimum of 20 mm (0.7874 in.).
(2) Make sure that the minimum distance between the sensing element and its support is 6 mm (0.2362 in.).
(3) Make sure that all the grommets are in good condition. If they are not, replace them (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-15-000-042) (see Detail B).
(4) Make sure that there is no damage or signs of chafing on the rail assemblies and the related brackets of the fan fire detectors.
(5) Make sure that there is no damage or signs of chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations to prevent short circuits.
(6) Make sure that there are no signs of damage on the sensing element:
- Abrasion
- Kinks
- Cuts
- Severe pitting.
NOTE: A small amount of wear and damage on the sensing element is permitted.
(7) If the sensing-element tube wall is open, replace the fan fire detector (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-15-000-042) and (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-15-400-042).(8) Do not replace the fan fire detector if there are dents or nicks or minor pitting on the sensing element.
(9) Make sure that there are no signs of chafing on the sensing element. If there are signs of chafing, do a check of the installation of the fan fire detector (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-15-400-042).
(10) For Meggitt fan fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.
C. Visual Inspection of the Core Fire-Detection Loops
(1) Make sure that the straight length of the sensing element from the responder head welding is a minimum of 20 mm (0.7874 in.).
(2) Make sure that the radius of the sensing element is a minimum of 9 mm (0.3543 in.).
(3) Make sure that the maximum distance between the ends of the two sensing elements and the last clamp is 25.4 mm (1.0000 in.).
(4) Make sure that the minimum distance between the sensing element and its support is 6 mm (0.2362 in.).
(5) Make sure that all the bushes are in good condition. If they are not, replace them (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-17-000-041).
(6) Make sure that there is no damage or signs of chafing on the fire detectors, the rail assemblies and the related brackets.
(7) To prevent short circuits, make sure that there is no damage or signs of chafing on the fire-detection harness insulations.
(8) For MEGGITT core fire-detectors, go to Para. 4.D. to do the cleaning.

D. Cleaning of the MEGGITT Fire Detectors
(1) Use a BRUSH - NON METALLIC and WATER - DEIONIZED to clean the ceramic insulation header and studs of the fire detectors.
(2) Dry the fire detectors fully.
