A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
F Decorative Cover ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
   (2) Make sure that the related passenger/crew-door (referred to as door) is safetied:
WARNING: BEFORE YOU START WORK ON THE DOOR, MAKE SURE THAT:
  • THE EMERGENCY CONTROL HANDLE IS IN THE DISARMED POSITION WITH THE SAFETY PIN INSTALLED.
  • THE PERCUSSION LEVER OF THE DOOR-DAMPER AND EMERGENCY-OPERATION CYLINDER IS IN THE DISARMED POSITION WITH THE SAFETY PIN INSTALLED.
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, THE DOOR CAN OPEN WITH FORCE OR THE ESCAPE SLIDE CAN DEPLOY SUDDENLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
     (a) Make sure that the door damper and the emergency operation cylinder are DISARMED (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-860-001).
     (b) Make sure that the emergency control handle (3) is set to the DISARMED/MANUAL position with the 98D52103500000 SAFETY PIN - SLIDE ARMING (2) installed on the door.
   (3) Make sure that the door is closed (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-410-001).
   (4) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position on the outer door control-handle to tell persons not to open the door.

B. Get Access
F Decorative Cover ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Remove the decorative cover (4) from the escape-slide pack assembly (8):
     (a) Use the door control handle (1) and carefully lift the door.
     (b) Hold the door and do not let it open fully.
     (c) Unwind the straps (7) from the buckles (6).
     (d) Open the straps (5) and (7).
     (e) Carefully lower the door and use the door control handle (1) and lock the door.
     (f) Pull the bottom edge of the decorative cover (4) away from the escape-slide pack assembly (8) to disengage the spring clips.
     (g) If the burr-strips or the dual lock reclosable fastener-strips are installed on the decorative cover (4):
  • Carefully pull the top edge of the decorative cover (4) away from the attach strips (10).
  • Remove the decorative cover (4).
NOTE: There are three types of attach strips (10):
  • Type 1: The burr-strips
  • Type 2: The dual-lock reclosable fastener-strips
  • Type 3: The spring-loaded bolts (12).
These three types of attach strips (10) are not interchangeable.
When you remove the dual-lock reclosable fastener-strip, it is necessary to use more force. You hear a continuous click sound when you pull the two halves of the dual-lock reclosable fastener-strip apart.
     (h) If the spring-loaded bolts (12) are installed on the decorative cover (4), disengage the spring-loaded bolts (12) from the packboard (9) and remove the decorative cover (4).
4. Procedure

A. Replacement of the Inspection Window
   (1) Send the decorative cover (4) to the workshop for the replacement of the inspection window.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the decorative cover (4) on the escape-slide pack assembly (8):
     (a) If the burr-strips or the dual-lock reclosable fastener-strips are installed on the decorative cover (4), do the steps that follow:
       1 Align the spring clips that are on the top edge of the decorative cover (4) with the slots (11) that are on the packboard (9).
       2 Push the top edge of the decorative cover (4) against the attach strips (10).
       3 Push the bottom edge of the decorative cover (4) against the escape-slide pack assembly (8) until the spring clips engage.
NOTE: There are three types of attach strips (10):
  • Type 1: The burr-strips
  • Type 2: The dual-lock reclosable fastener-strips
  • Type 3: The spring-loaded bolts (12).
These three types of attach strips (10) are not interchangeable.
When you attach the dual-lock reclosable fastener-strip, it is necessary to use more force. You hear a continuous click sound when you push the two halves of the dual-lock reclosable fastener-strip together.
     (b) If the spring-loaded bolts (12) are installed on the decorative cover (4), do the steps that follow:
       1 Engage the spring-loaded bolts (12) on the packboard (9).
       2 Push the bottom edge of the decorative cover (4) against the escape-slide pack assembly (8) until the spring clips engage.
     (c) Use the door control handle (1) and carefully lift the door.
     (d) Hold the door and do not let it open fully.
     (e) Close the straps (5) and (7).
     (f) Tightly wind the loose ends of the straps (7) around the buckles (6). Make sure that there are no loose ends of the straps (7).
   (3) Carefully lower the door and use the door control handle (1) and lock the door.
   (4) Make sure that you can see the pressure gage through the hole of the decorative cover (4).
   (5) Put the door back to serviceable condition (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-860-002).
   (6) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.

B. De-energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-862-001).
