4. Procedure
Subtask 24-38-00-210-050-A
A. Inspect the Batteries
   (1) To do this:
WARNING: DO NOT GET ELECTROLYTE ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
  • FLUSH IT AWAY IMMEDIATELY WITH CLEAN COLD WATER.
  • GET MEDICAL AID.
     (a) Disconnect the battery connector and put a CAP - BLANKING on the connector.
     (b) Examine the battery externally and make sure that these are in good condition:
  • case and lid,
  • latches,
  • pins of the electrical connector.
     (c) Examine the battery internally; to do this:
1 Cut and remove the lockwire from the lid.
2 Remove the lid and do a check of the condition of:
  • cells (electrolytic spillage, overheating, deformation),
  • connections between cells (oxidation),
  • safety valves.
If you find spilled electrolyte, overheat marks or deformation (such as a cell with a swollen case, damaged cell strap), replace the battery.
     (d) Install the lid and safety it with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
Subtask 24-38-00-210-051-A
B. Examine the Ventilation Ducts
   (1) To do this:
     (a) Do a check of the condition of the ventilation ducts (traces of electrolyte).
     (b) Remove the ducts to clean and wash them with water and, if necessary, remove the electrolyte.
     (c) Install the ducts.
Subtask 24-38-00-160-050-A
C. Clean of the Batteries Area
   (1) In areas which you can get access to easily:
Use a clean wet cloth to remove any trace of electrolyte. Be careful not to apply electrolyte all around with the cloth.
You must of ten clean the cloth not to have a larger area with contamination.
   (2) In areas which you cannot get access to easily (complex structure):
     (a) First clean the area with a 5 percent acetic acid solution.
NOTE: If acetic acid is not available, you can use pure household spirit vinegar as an alternative.
     (b) Then wipe and dry the area as well as possible with a clean cloth.
   (3) Electrical cables on which there is electrolyte contamination:
     (a) Clean the cables with a clean SPONGE or Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) ; if the cable insulation is damaged, replace the cable.
   (4) If some electrolyte comes out of the battery, you must write a report to give details on:
  • the area where it occurred
  • the cleaning procedure used and
  • the cable repair you did.
This is necessary to do another check after 2 weeks.
5. Close-up
Subtask 24-38-00-865-052-A
A. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

B. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the access panel of the BATTERY power center 105VU.
   (3) Close the access door 822.
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).
   (5) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
