System Test of the IDG Frequency (P/N 766219)

TASK 24-21-00-730-041-A
System Test of the IDG Frequency (P/N 766219)

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
1. Reason for the Job
Make sure that the steady-state operating frequency of the IDG is between 390 and 410 Hz.
If the frequency of the IDG is out of the specified limits, but is between 380 and 420 Hz, the display of the IDG frequency on the ECAM ELEC page becomes amber. Adjust the frequency as given in the procedure that follows.
If the frequency of the IDG is out of the limits 380 - 420 Hz, replace the IDG.
NOTE: The adjustment of the frequency is permitted only one time each 400FH. If you adjust the governor, make an entry in the aircraft technical logbook.

WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
CAUTION: DO NOT ADJUST THE GOVERNOR MORE THAN 1 TIME EACH 400 FH. IF YOU ADJUST THE GOVERNOR, MAKE AN ENTRY IN THE AIRCRAFT TECHNICAL LOGBOOK.
A. Test of the IDG Frequency
ACTION
RESULT
1.On the ECAM control panel:
  • get the ELEC page
On the lower ECAM display unit:
  • read the operating frequency of the generator (IDG1 or IDG2) to calculate the value of the necessary adjustment.
NOTE: The normal operating frequency of the generator is 400 + or - 5 Hertz.
2.Shut down the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-018).
  • remove the lockwire from the governor adjustment screw (2),
  • adjust the frequency to 400 + or - 1 Hertz. To do this, turn the adjustment screw (2):
. clockwise to decrease the frequency,
. or counterclockwise to increase the frequency.
NOTE: One full turn of the adjustment screw changes the frequency by 3 to 3.5 Hertz.

3.Start the related engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-043)
On the lower ECAM display unit:
  • check the frequency.
NOTE: If necessary, shut down the engine and repeat the adjustment procedure from step 2.
4.Shut down the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-018).

5.Safety the adjustment screw (2) with lockwire. Do this carefully not to change the setting of the adjustment screw.

5. Close-up
Subtask 24-21-00-860-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

   (1) Do the EIS stop procedure
(Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-002).
   (2) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
Subtask 24-21-00-410-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
