TASK 24-21-00-210-806-A-01
Visual Inspection of the Integrated Drive Generator (IDG) for Oil Leakage Engine Static and Check of the Electrical Circuits

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: WEAR GOGGLES, INSULATED GLOVES AND OTHER PROTECTIVE CLOTHES. HOT OIL CAN BURN YOUR EYES AND SKIN. IF OIL TOUCHES YOUR EYES OR SKIN, GET MEDICAL AID.
CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE THE IDG:
  • IF IT CONTAINS TOO MUCH OIL
  • IF IT DOES NOT CONTAIN ENOUGH OIL
IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE IDG.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE SOLVENTS THAT CONTAIN CHLORINE TO CLEAN THE EQUIPMENT (PUMP, HOSES, TANK AND FUNNEL) USED TO FILL THE IDG WITH OIL. CHLORINE CONTAMINATION OF THE OIL CAN CAUSE FAST DETERIORATION OF THE OIL AND WILL DECREASE THE LIFE OF THE IDG.

4. Procedure
Subtask 24-21-00-210-117-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Oil Leak Test
   (1) On the 753970A CSD IDG SYSTEM LEAK TESTER, close the drain valve, refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
   (2) Set the shut-off valve to off and close the regulator valve to prevent pressure release to the IDG fitting.
   (3) Remove the dust cap from the pressure fill valve-coupling.
   (4) Connect one end of the pressure fill hose (1) of the 753970A CSD IDG SYSTEM LEAK TESTER to the pressure fill valve-coupling (pressure fill port) of the IDG, refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
   (5) Connect the other end of the 753970A CSD IDG SYSTEM LEAK TESTER to the AIR SOURCE 2 BAR (30 PSI) - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY, refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
   (6) Turn the shut-off valve to on and adjust the regulator valve to a pressure of 1.72 bar (24.9465 psi) on the system pressure gauge, refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
   (7) Turn the supply valve to off to keep the air in the system, refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
NOTE: When there is no leak in the IDG, the pressure in the system become stable. When there is a leak in the IDG:
  • The pressure will decrease to a lower value because of the vent valve position.
  • The pressure will stay at this position.
   (8) Monitor the system pressure for five minutes to make sure that there is(are) no leak(s).
   (9) If there is(are) leak(s), do a visual inspection of these components:
NOTE: There can be different signs of possible leakage:
  • Very small drops of oil
  • Wet areas around the connections
  • Oil stripes on the hoses
  • Stains or discoloration which can occur when oil or grease touches very hot surfaces.
     (a) IDG fittings for leakage:
  • The pressure fill port
  • The overfill drain port
  • The oil-inlet and oil-outlet ports (IDG oil tubes LS01 and LS04 connections between the IDG and the thermal management-system manifold)
  • The case drain plug
  • The vacuum break valve.
If you find an oil leak at:
1 The pressure fill port, replace the pressure fill valve-coupling (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-803) and (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-803).
2 The overfill drain port, replace the overfill drain valve-coupling (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-803) and (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-803).
3 The oil-inlet and oil-outlet ports or the case drain, replace the related fitting.
       4 The vacuum break valve:
     (b) External oil circuit (oil lines), for leakage and good condition:
       1 For tubes LS01 and LS04:
  • No cracks are permitted on the tubes and the B-nuts.
       2 For attachment:
  • Replace the broken or the cracked brackets.
  • Replace the worn clamps.
  • If missing, install the nuts and the bolts.
  • Tighten the loose nuts and the bolts.
     (c) IDG fuel/oil heat-exchanger for leakage:
     (d) IDG oil/oil heat-exchanger for leakage:
   (10) If you find components wet with oil, make sure that you find and correct all the causes.
If necessary, fill the IDG oil tank (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-24-612-803).
   (11) If you cannot find the cause of the leak visually, do a check of the system for leaks. To do this, use soap suds or equivalent leak detector fluid:
  • Put a container below the drain valve 753970A CSD IDG SYSTEM LEAK TESTER and open the valve to release the pressure, refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
  • Make the necessary corrections and put the system back to an operational configuration.
  • Do the check again to make sure that you repaired the leak.
NOTE: If oil collects in the collecting filter, use the drain valve at the bottom of the filter housing to drain the oil, refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
NOTE: If you use the AIR SOURCE 2 BAR (30 PSI) - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY, it is necessary to install a plug on the port for the compressed air source, refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
