B. Visual Inspection of the Filter Element
(1) If you smell a fuel odour from the filter element or filter cover, do the servicing of the IDG after oil chemical contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-00-612-043).
(2) If you think that the condition of the oil in the filter element or on the filter cover is not correct, do a sampling of the IDG oil for analysis (Ref. AMM TASK 12-32-24-281-001).
(3) If the filter element does not show signs of metal particles, do the steps that follow:
- If there are large quantities of bright metal deposits on the filter element, in the filter cavity or in the oil drained from the IDG,
(a) Remove the IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-040) and send it back to the overhaul facility.
(b) Install a new IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-040).
(5) If the filter element or/and the O-rings is(are) damaged (there is a risk of particles in the external circuit), remove the tubings, the cooler and the IDG.
(a) Remove the tubings (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-49-000-040) for cleaning.
(b) Remove the cooler (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-60-000-001) and send it back to the overhaul facility.
(c) Remove the IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-040) and send it back to the overhaul facility.

(3) If the filter element does not show signs of metal particles, do the steps that follow:
NOTE: A moderate number of isolated, small metal flakes (bronze- or silver-color metal) or non-metal debris (for example, flakes of generator insulation, black epoxy and debris of tie wrap) are permitted. They are the usual results of operation.
(a) If the oil-filter Differential-Pressure Indicator (DPI) is not extended: - install the filter element (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-041).
- do the alternate procedure: Refer to TSM/24.
