TASK 24-20-00-040-001-A
Check of the AC Main Generation Maintenance Condition

CAUTION: IF THE IDG OPERATES IN THE DISCONNECTED MODE:
  • DO NOT CONNECT IT AGAIN.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE IDG DOES NOT OPERATE FOR MORE THAN 50 HOURS IN THE DISCONNECTED MODE.
  • AFTER A MAXIMUM OF 50 HOURS IN THE DISCONNECTED MODE, REPLACE IT AND SEND THE REMOVED IDG FOR A SHOP INSPECTION.
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE BALL BEARING ASSEMBLY ON THE INPUT SHAFT AND THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE CAN OCCUR.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (2) Do the EIS start procedure (upper ECAM DU and lower ECAM DU only)
(Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001).

A. CAUTION to Prevent Damage to IDG
CAUTION: REPLACE THE IDG1(2) BEFORE NEXT ENGINE START IF:
  • THE IDG1(2) WAS MECHANICALLY DISCONNECTED, AND
  • THE FAULT MESSAGE "IDG1(E1-4000XU) OIL DELTA TEMP/GCU1 (1XU1)" OR "IDG2(E2-4000XU) OIL DELTA TEMP/GCU2 (1XU2)" IS THEN SHOWN ON THE PFR OR LAST LEG REPORT. THIS FAULT MESSAGE SHOWS THAT THE IDG IS STILL MECHANICALLY CONNECTED. THIS CAN CAUSE HEAVY DAMAGE TO THE IDG AT THE NEXT ENGINE START.
   (1) On the lower ECAM DU, on the ELEC page, make sure that the IDG 1(2) DISC message is shown.
NOTE: This is only applicable if one generator is inoperative and the cause of the dispatch under MMEL 24-22-01A was one of these warning messages:
  • ELEC IDG 1(2) OIL LO PR
  • ELEC IDG 1(2) OIL OVHT.

B. Fuel recirculation Check
   (1) On the ECAM control panel, push the STS key.
   (2) On the lower ECAM display unit, make sure that the "ENG 1(2) FADEC" message does not come into view on the STATUS page.
     (a) If the message comes into view for the engine with the IDG in operation:
  • Make sure that none of the messages that follow come into view:
    . ACOC OIL TEMP TC/HC/EEC
    . IDG OIL TEMP TC/HC/EEC
    . ACOC AIR MOD VLV/HC/EEC
    . FUEL DIV RET VLV/HC/EEC
    . HMS FUEL OVTMP
    . HMS ENG OIL OVTMP
    . HMS IDG OIL OVTMP
    . HMS IDG OVTMP W/RECIRC
    . FUEL DIV RET VLV/EEC
   (3) On the maintenance panel 50VU:
  • Release the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch(es) (the ON legend(s) come(s) on).

2.On the MCDU, on the ENG menu page:
  • push the line key adjacent to the FADEC 1A(2A) indication.
On the MCDU:
  • the FADEC 1A(2A) page comes into view.
3.On the FADEC 1A(2A) page:
  • push the line key adjacent to the LAST LEG REPORT indication.
On the MCDU:
  • make sure that there is no message related to the control system of the fuel return valve.
4.On the MCDU:
  • push the line key adjacent to the RETURN indication until the ENG menu page comes into view.

5.On the MCDU, on the ENG menu page:
  • push the line key adjacent to the FADEC 1B(2B) indication.

D. Check of the APU Oil Consumption
   (1) If you do a regular monitoring of the APU oil consumption, make sure that the APU oil quantity is sufficient for the flight:

   (2) If you do not do a regular monitoring of the APU oil consumption, do the steps that follow to make sure that the APU oil quantity is sufficient for the flight:
     (a) Make sure that APU LOW OIL LEVEL indication is not shown:
1 On the ECAM control panel, push the APU key (on the lower ECAM DU, the APU page comes into view).
2 Make sure that the APU LOW OIL LEVEL indication is not shown.
     (b) Make sure that there are no oil leaks:
1 Start and operate the APU:

       2 During APU operation:
  • Do a check for oil smell in the passenger compartment.
  • Do a check for white smoke from the APU exhaust.
NOTE: An oil smell in the passenger compartment shows that there is an internal and/or external oil leakage.
NOTE: Smoke from APU exhaust shows that there is an internal oil leakage.
       3 Stop the APU:

     (c) Make sure that the APU oil is at maximum level:

NOTE: During the oil level check, make sure that there is no external oil leakage in the APU compartment.
