WARNING: BEFORE YOU OPEN PHC CIRCUIT BREAKERS 2DA1(2,3), OPEN PROBE HEATER CIRCUIT-BREAKERS 1DA1(2), 3DA1(2,3), 4DA1(2,3) AND 5DA1(2,3). IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS SEQUENCE: - THE PROBES WILL BECOME TOO HOT. - THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT AND INJURY TO MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL.
NOTE: This procedure is applicable to the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and the Solid State Cockpit Voice Recorder (SSCVR).
NOTE: During the test, it is possible that you hear an audio signal related to the synchronization with the second recorder (Solid State Flight Data Recorder (SSFDR)). You can ignore it.

1. Reason for the Job
Refer to the MPD TASK: 237100-02
OPERATIONAL CHECK OF CVR RECORDING LOGIC INCLUDING TIME DELAY RELAY
To do a check of the flight or ground power supply of the CVR.
To do a check of the CVR power supply to the engines.
To make sure that recorder power-delay relays 46TU (for ENG1) and 45TU (for ENG2) operate correctly.
To make sure that oil low pressure and ground relay 10KS1 (for ENG1) operates correctly for the logic related to relay 46TU.
To make sure that oil low pressure and ground relay 12KS2 (for ENG2) operates correctly for the logic related to relay 45TU.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Wait for a minimum of five minutes after the engines were stopped.
   (2) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (3) Make sure that the PARK BRK control handle is in the ON position.
   (4) Make sure that the aircraft is in the ground configuration.
   (5) On maintenance panel 50VU, connect the HEADSET 600 OHMS to the CVR/HEADSET connector.

A. Operational Test of the Recorder Power-Flight Control-Relay (23TU)
NOTE: During the test, it is possible that you hear your voice in the headset.
During the test, if you hear a sound (Larsen effect), do the test of the CVR with headset jack 22RK and the parking brake set to OFF. Before you set the parking brake to OFF and start the test, install the wheel chocks or apply the brakes.
After you complete the test, set the parking brake back to ON.
ACTION
RESULT
1.On the overhead panel, on panel 21VU:
  • Push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch for a maximum of six seconds and then release it.
There is no tone in the headset.
2.On panel 21VU:
  • Push the RCDR/GND CTL/AUTO pushbutton switch.
On panel 21VU, on the RCDR/GND CTL/AUTO pushbutton switch:
  • The ON legend comes on.
3.On panel 21VU:
  • Push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch until you hear a tone or for a maximum of six seconds.
You can hear a tone in the headset connected to the CVR.
4.On panel 21VU:
  • Push the RCDR/GND CTL/AUTO pushbutton switch.
On panel 21VU, on the RCDR/GND CTL/AUTO pushbutton switch:
  • The ON legend goes off.

NOTE: The stopwatch is necessary to measure the time in the cockpit.
NOTE: During the test, it is possible that you hear your voice in the headset.
During the test, if you hear a sound (Larsen effect), do the test of the CVR with headset jack 22RK and the parking brake set to OFF. Before you set the parking brake to OFF and start the test, install the wheel chocks or apply the brakes.
After you complete the test, set the parking brake back to ON.

1.On the overhead panel, on panel 21VU:

7.Immediately start the STOPWATCH in the cockpit.

8.On panel 21VU:

  • Wait for four minutes. Then, push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch until you hear a tone or for a maximum of six seconds.
You can hear a tone in the headset connected to the CVR.
  • Wait again for two minutes. Then, push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch for a maximum of six seconds.
There is no tone in the headset.
NOTE: The test of relay 46TU is satisfactory with the related logic of relay 10KS1.

  • Wait for four minutes. Then, push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch until you hear a tone or for a maximum of six seconds.
You can hear a tone in the headset connected to the CVR.
  • Wait again for two minutes. Then, push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch for a maximum of six seconds.
There is no tone in the headset.
NOTE: The test of relays 45TU and 46TU is satisfactory.
