WARNING: BEFORE YOU OPEN PHC CIRCUIT BREAKERS 2DA1(2,3), OPEN PROBE HEATER CIRCUIT-BREAKERS 1DA1(2), 3DA1(2,3), 4DA1(2,3) AND 5DA1(2,3). IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS SEQUENCE: - THE PROBES WILL BECOME TOO HOT. - THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT AND INJURY TO MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL.
NOTE: This procedure is applicable to the CVR and the SSCVR.
NOTE: During the test, it is possible that you will hear an audio signal related to the synchronization with the second recorder (SSFDR). You can ignore it.

1. Reason for the Job
Refer to the MPD TASK: 237100-02
OPERATIONAL CHECK OF CVR RECORDING LOGIC INCLUDING TIME DELAY RELAY
To do a check of the FLT/GND power supply of the CVR.
To do a check of the CVR power supply through the engines.
To make sure that the CVR PWR CUT OFF RELAY 10RK operates correctly.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Wait for a minimum of five minutes after the engines were stopped.
   (2) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (3) Make sure that the PARK BRK control handle is in the ON position.
   (4) Make sure that the aircraft is in the ground configuration.
   (5) On maintenance panel 50VU, connect a HEADSET 600 OHMS to the CVR/HEAD SET connector.

A. Test of the FLT/GND power supply of the CVR
NOTE: Before this test, you can hear an audio signal related to the synchronization with the 2nd recorder (SSFDR). You can ignore this audio signal.
ACTION
RESULT
1.Make sure that you cannot hear the cockpit conversations in the headset.

2.On the overhead panel, on panel 21VU:
On panel 21VU, on the RCDR/GND CTL pushbutton switch:
  • Push the RCDR/GND CTL pushbutton switch.
  • The ON legend comes on.
    You can hear the conversations from the CVR microphone in the headset.

  • Push the RCDR/GND CTL pushbutton switch.
  • The ON legend goes off.
    In the headset, you cannot hear the conversations.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU OPEN THE CIRCUIT BREAKERS AS FOLLOWS:
  • 1JH, 2JH2 AND 3JH2 BEFORE 2KS2.
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS SEQUENCE, THERE IS A RISK OF ELECTROCUTION. THIS IS BECAUSE YOU WILL START CONTINUOUS IGNITION IF YOU OPEN CIRCUIT BREAKER 2KS2 FIRST.
B. Test of the Power Supply of the CVR through the engines
ACTION
RESULT
1.Make sure that you cannot hear the cockpit conversations in the headset.

2.On the rear panel, on panel 121VU:
  • Open circuit breakers 2JH1, 3JH1, 2JH2 and 3JH2.

3.On the overhead panel, on panel 49VU:

  • Open circuit breaker 1JH then circuit breakers 2KS1 and 2KS2.
In the headset, you can hear the conversations from the CVR microphone.
4.On panel 121VU:
  • Open circuit breakers 4KS1 and 4KS2.

5.On panels 49VU and 121VU:

  • Close circuit breakers 2KS1, 2KS2, 4KS1 and 4KS2, and then close circuit breakers 1JH, 2JH1, 3JH1, 2JH2 and 3JH2.

  • Start the STOPWATCH.
You can hear the conversations from the CVR microphone in the headset for 5 minutes. Then you cannot hear the cockpit conversations.

C. Operational Test of the FLT/GND Power Supply of the CVR (6RK)
NOTE: During the test, it is possible that you will hear your voice in the headset.
NOTE: During the test, if there is an acoustic feedback (Larsen effect), you can do the test of the CVR through jack headset 22RK and with the parking brake set to off. Then, installed wheel chocks or brakes applied are necessary conditions before you set the parking brake to off and start the test. After you complete the test, it will be necessary to set the parking brake back to on.

1.On the overhead panel, on panel 21VU:
  • Push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch for a maximum of 6 seconds and release it.
There is no tone in the headset.
2.On panel 21VU:
  • Push the RCDR/GND CTL pushbutton switch.

D. Operational Test of Power Supply Relay 8RK and Time Delay Power Cut-Off Relay 10RK of the CVR through the Engines
NOTE: A stopwatch is necessary to measure the time in the cockpit.
NOTE: During the test, it is possible that you will hear your voice in the headset.
NOTE: During the test, if there is an acoustic feedback (Larsen effect), you can do the test of the CVR through jack headset 22RK and with the parking brake set to off. Then, installed wheel chocks or brakes applied are necessary conditions before you set the parking brake to off and start the test. After you complete the test, it will be necessary to set the parking brake back to on.

1.On the overhead panel, on panel 21VU:
  • Push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch for a maximum of 6 seconds and release it.
There is no tone in the headset.
2.On the overhead panel, on panel 49VU:
  • Open circuit breaker 2KS1.

5.On panel 49VU:
  • Close circuit breaker 2KS1.

6.On panel 121VU:
  • Close circuit breaker 4KS1.

7.Immediately, start the STOPWATCH in the cockpit.

8.On panel 21VU:

  • Wait 4 minutes then push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch until you hear a tone or for a maximum of 6 seconds.
You can hear a tone in the headset connected to the CVR.
  • Wait 2 more minutes then push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch for a maximum of 6 seconds.
There is no tone in the headset.
NOTE: The test of relay 10RK is satisfactory.

E. Test of the CVR PWR CUT OFF RELAY (10RK).

You can hear the CVR TEST tone in the headset.
  • Wait 2 more minutes then push the CVR TEST pushbutton switch for a maximum of 6 seconds.
You cannot hear the CVR TEST tone in the headset.
NOTE: The test of relay 10RK is satisfactory.
