A. Installation of the LEO Passive Antenna
F LEO Passive Antenna ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Remove the used sealant from the fuselage structure (6) with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
   (3) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (4) Apply Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) at the bottom of the antenna (2).
   (5) Remove the TAPE - MASKING from the coaxial connector (4) and the screw holes.
   (6) Remove the blanking cap from the coaxial connector (4).
   (7) Put the gasket (3) in position on the adaptation plate (5) and align it with the screw holes.
   (8) Connect the coaxial connector (4) to the antenna (2).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (9) Safety the coaxial connector (4) with the 14QDB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (10) Put the antenna (2) in position.
   (11) Align the antenna (2) with the gasket (3) and the screw holes.
   (12) Install the screws (1).
   (13) TORQUE the screws (1) to between 35 and 30 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.34 m.daN ) T in a diagonally opposite sequence.
   (14) Make sure that the bonding contact resistance between the antenna (2) and the fuselage structure (6) is not more than 5.0 milliohms (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (15) Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) or Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) around the antenna (2).
   (16) Apply Primer Paint-Polysulfide Corrosion Inhibiting Structure (Material No.04FEC2) , Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the heads of the screws (1).
Subtask 23-28-13-914-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: AT OR BEFORE THE END OF THE APPLICABLE TIME LIMIT (3 OR 10 DAYS), IT IS NECESSARY TO DO THE FULL INSTALLATION:
  • REMOVE THE ANTENNA
  • CLEAN THE FUSELAGE AND ANTENNA SURFACES AND REMOVE ALL SIGNS OF HUMIDITY
  • INSTALL THE ANTENNA WITH FULL INSTALLATION OF THE SEALANT.
IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THERE IS A RISK OF WATER INFILTRATION AND CORROSION.
B. Aircraft Antenna Sealant-Exemption

If it is not possible to apply sealant and wait for the cure time, refer to the table that follows. It gives the sealant application time-limits for the LEO passive antenna.
These limits agree with:
  • The antenna installation configuration
  • The antenna location
  • The antenna sensitivity to water infiltration
  • The sealant availability.
Configuration of the antenna installation
If the airline has sealant but does not want to wait until the sealant is cured
If the airline has no sealant available
Conductive gasket between the antenna and the fuselage:
  • Sealing bead around the antenna
  • Sealant on the heads of the screws.

  • No exemption possible for the conductive gasket (risk of water infiltration between the aircraft and the antenna).
  • It is permitted to fly for a maximum of 10 days without sealing bead around the antenna if the conductive gasket is installed.

It is permitted to fly for a maximum of 10 days without sealant on the heads of the screws.
NOTE: When there is no sealing bead, there is a risk of aerodynamic noise.
