Installation of the Heat Exchanger Unit (Into the Air Conditioning Pack)


WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT AIR IS NOT SUPPLIED TO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM FROM THE MAIN ENGINE, THE APU OR A GROUND SOURCE. HOT COMPRESSED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THIS EQUIPMENT. THIS EQUIPMENT IS HEAVY (MORE THAN 12 KG (26.5 lb)) AND CAN CAUSE INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 21-52-24-860-050-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that these access panels are removed from the belly fairing structure (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-13-000-002):
     (a) FOR [10HM4] (HEAT EXCHANGER UNIT)
     (b) FOR [11HM4] (HEAT EXCHANGER UNIT)
4. Procedure
Subtask 21-52-24-560-050-A
A. Preparation of the Replacement Component
   (1) Remove the air-conditioning pack identification-plate/air-conditioning pack amendment-plate:
     (a) If the air-conditioning pack identification-plate/air-conditioning pack amendment-plate (53) is installed:
       1 Remove the screws (52).
       2 Remove the air-conditioning pack identification-plate/air-conditioning pack amendment-plate (53) from the heat exchanger unit (7).
NOTE: The air-conditioning pack identification-plate/air-conditioning pack amendment-plate contains the serial number and the part number for the air conditioning pack.
     (b) If the air-conditioning pack identification-plate and the air-conditioning pack amendment-plate are installed:
       1 Remove the screws (52).
       2 Remove the air-conditioning pack identification-plate (51) from the heat exchanger unit (7).
       3 Remove the air-conditioning pack amendment-plate (53) from the heat exchanger unit (7).
NOTE: The air-conditioning pack identification-plate and air-conditioning pack amendment-plate contain the serial number and the part number for the air conditioning pack.
   (2) Install the air-conditioning pack identification-plate/air-conditioning pack amendment-plate:
     (a) If one of the air-conditioning pack identification-plate/air-conditioning pack amendment-plate (53) is removed:
       1 Install the screws (52).
       2 Tighten the screws (52).
       3 Install the air-conditioning pack identification-plate/air-conditioning pack amendment-plate (53) on the heat exchanger unit (7).
NOTE: These steps are necessary as these plates have the data for the air conditioning pack.
     (b) If the air-conditioning pack identification-plate and the air-conditioning pack amendment-plate are removed:
       1 Install the screws (52).
       2 Tighten the screws (52).
       3 Install the air-conditioning pack identification-plate (51) on the heat exchanger unit (7).
       4 Install the air-conditioning pack amendment-plate (53) on the heat exchanger unit (7).
NOTE: These steps are necessary as these plates have the data for the air conditioning pack.

B. Installation of the Heat Exchanger Unit
NOTE: It is not necessary for the bonding strap (34) to be installed during installation of the heat exchanger unit.
   (1) Prepare the surface of the bonding point(s)
(Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-803).
   (2) Turn the sleeves (16), (88), (72), (78) and (79) when you move or install them.
   (3) Prepare the attachment parts for the installation:
     (a) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
     (b) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
     (c) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
     (d) Make sure that:
       1 For the left heat-exchanger unit (10HM4):
  • The seals (43), (47), (87), (71), (77) and (84) or the alternative seals (85) and (86) are in good condition.
       2 For the right heat-exchanger unit (11HM4):
  • The seals (87), (71), (77), (143), (147) and (184) or the alternative seals (185) and (186) are in good condition.
     (e) If necessary, replace the seals:
       1 For the left heat-exchanger unit:
       2 For the right heat-exchanger unit:
     (f) Apply a small quantity of Dry lubricant-General Assembly Graphite - (Material No.03QBD1) to the seals before you install them.
     (g) Do not use lubricant for the installation of ABS1040-XXX seals.
     (h) Apply a small quantity of Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) to the mating surfaces of the retaining cables (75) and (90).
   (4) Install the heat exchanger unit as follows:
WARNING: SUPPORT THE UNIT/ASSEMBLY. THE UNIT/ASSEMBLY IS HEAVY. IF YOU DO NOT SUPPORT IT, IT WILL FALL. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS, AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Carefully put the heat exchanger unit (7) in position on the air conditioning pack.
NOTE: The heat exchanger unit weighs approximately 36 kg (79.3664 lb).
     (b) Put the sleeve (72) in position on the flange (17).
     (c) Put the retaining cables (75) in position on the flange (17), and install the new AIPC 21-52-41-29-100 WASHER (73) and the new AIPC 21-52-41-29-090 NUT (74).
     (d) Put the sleeve (79) in position on the flange (10).
     (e) Put the retaining cables (90) in position on the flange (10), and install the new
AIPC 21-52-41-28-070 WASHER (73) and the new AIPC 21-52-41-28-060 NUT (74).
     (f) Put the retaining cables (96) in position on the flange (4), and install the new
AIPC 21-52-41-29-100 WASHER (73) and the new AIPC 21-52-41-29-090 NUT (74).
     (g) Put the sleeve (88) in position on the flange (4).
     (h) TORQUE the nuts (74) to between 0.85 and 0.8 m.daN (75.22 and 70.80 lbf.in )
T.
     (i) Clean the remaining Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.
03FAB1) from the retaining cables (96).
   (5) Install pipe assembly 10HM (11HM) (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-23-400-001):
     (a) Do not install the access panel(s) at the same time.
   (6) Put the clamp (12) and the sleeve (13) in position on the heat exchanger unit (7).
   (7) TORQUE the clamp (12) to between 0.12 and 0.10 m.daN (10.62 and 8.85 lbf.in ) T.
   (8) Put the sleeve (16) and the duct (15) in position on the heat exchanger unit (7).
   (9) Remove the protective cover from the cooling elements of the heat exchanger unit (7).
   (10) Install the inlet plenum (46):
     (a) For the left heat-exchanger unit (10HM4):
       1 Put the seals (43) and (47) and the inlet plenum (46) in position on the heat exchanger unit (7).
     (b) For the right heat-exchanger unit (11HM4):
       1 Put the seals (143) and (147) and the inlet plenum (46) in position on the heat exchanger unit (7).
   (11) Install the screws (48), the washers (49) and the nuts (50).
   (12) TORQUE the screws (48) to between 0.48 and 0.37 m.daN (42.48 and 32.74 lbf.in )
T.
   (13) Put the bonding strap (41) in position and install the screw (42), the washer (44) and the nut (45).
   (14) Tighten the screw (42).
   (15) Do the electrical resistance measurement and the final protection of the bonding point(s)
(
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (16) Put the clamp (9) and the sleeve (8) in position on the heat exchanger unit (7).
   (17) Tighten the clamp (9).
   (18) Install air-conditioning pack 10HM (11HM) (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-41-400-001).
Subtask 21-52-24-710-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Test(s)
   (1) Do the pre-conditioning through the HP ground connector (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001) or with the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001).
   (2) Do a leak check of the heat-exchanger unit connections.
NOTE: Minimum leakage is permitted. After the pack operates for some minutes, the leakage of air will decrease because the seals have their correct operating temperature.
   (3) After approximately 15 minutes, stop the pre-conditioning (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001).
   (4) Do the operational test of the cockpit and the cabin temperature control (Ref. AMM TASK 21-63-00-710-004).
Subtask 21-52-24-710-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Test(s)
   (1) Do the pre-conditioning through the HP ground connector (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001) or with the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001).
   (2) Do a leak check of the heat-exchanger unit connections.
NOTE: Minimum leakage is permitted. After the pack operates for some minutes, the leakage of air will decrease because the seals have their correct operating temperature.
   (3) After approximately 15 minutes, stop the pre-conditioning (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-33-21-618-001).
   (4) For the left heat-exchanger unit (10HM4):
     (a) Do the operational test of the conditioned service-air system with bleed air (Ref. AMM TASK 21-58-00-710-002).
     (b) Examine the joints for signs of air leakage.
   (5) Do the operational test of the cockpit and the cabin temperature control (Ref. AMM TASK 21-63-00-710-004).

   (1) Install these access panels on the belly fairing structure (Ref. AMM TASK 53-35-13-400-002):
     (a) FOR [10HM4] (HEAT EXCHANGER UNIT)
     (b) FOR [11HM4] (HEAT EXCHANGER UNIT)
