Subtask 12-32-28-941-060-A
A. Safety Precautions
(2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
(3) On panel 400VU:
(5) If the fuel temperature is less than 0 DEG.C (32.00 DEG.F) and/or the water drain valves are frozen, to keep the flight turnaround times:
Subtask 12-32-28-010-084-A WARNING:
OBEY THE FUEL SAFETY PROCEDURES.
(1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work on the fuel system (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001). (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
(3) On panel 400VU:
- Make sure that landing-gear control-lever 6GA is in the DOWN position
- Put a warning notice in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.
(5) If the fuel temperature is less than 0 DEG.C (32.00 DEG.F) and/or the water drain valves are frozen, to keep the flight turnaround times:
- Do the cold weather maintenance procedure to make the water drain valve warm (Ref. AMM TASK 12-31-28-660-001).
NOTE: It is necessary not to apply unusually high force to open the water drain valve.
B. Get Access
(1) To get access to the center tank water-drain-valves, open the applicable access panels:
Subtask 12-32-28-480-057-A (1) To get access to the center tank water-drain-valves, open the applicable access panels:
C. Preparation of the Equipment
(1) To get access to the high water drain valves from the ground, attach the:
4. Procedure(1) To get access to the high water drain valves from the ground, attach the:
- 98A28101000000 ADAPTING PIPE - WATER DRAINING FROM FUEL
or the - 98D28104000000 PIPE ADAPTING-WATER DRAINING
to the bottle and funnel of the 98A28104000000 PURGER - WATER DRAIN.
Subtask 12-32-28-281-068-A
A. Operational Check of Water Drain Valves
(a) Keep the surge tanks empty.
(b) Push the center of the applicable water drain valve with the 98A28104000000 PURGER - WATER DRAIN:
(d) Do a visual check of the surge tank water-drain-valve to make sure that it is in full and free movement.
(e) Do this procedure at all the water drain valves.
(2) For the wing tank water-drain-valves:
(c) Examine the water drain valve for leaks. If the valve has leaks, use the 98A28104000000 PURGER - WATER DRAIN to push (in) and release (out) the center of the valve three or four times. No leaks are permitted.
(d) Do this procedure at all the water drain valves.
(3) For the center tank water-drain-valves:
(c) Examine the water drain valve for leaks. If the valve has leaks, use the 98A28104000002 TOOL - PURGING to push (in) and release (out) the center of the valve three or four times. No leaks are permitted.
5. Close-upCAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE PLUNGER OF THE TOOL ALIGNS CORRECTLY WITH THE WATER DRAIN VALVE. INCORRECT ALIGNMENT OF THE TOOL CAN CAUSE:
(1) For the surge tank water-drain-valves: - THE WATER DRAIN VALVE TO STAY IN THE OPEN POSITION AFTER THE TOOL IS REMOVED
- A FUEL LEAK.
(a) Keep the surge tanks empty.
(b) Push the center of the applicable water drain valve with the 98A28104000000 PURGER - WATER DRAIN:
- Make sure that the water drain valve opens.
(d) Do a visual check of the surge tank water-drain-valve to make sure that it is in full and free movement.
(e) Do this procedure at all the water drain valves.
(2) For the wing tank water-drain-valves:
NOTE: It is necessary to fill the fuel tanks to a minimum of 10% of capacity. This is to cover the water drain valve outlet, until the water drain valves operate satisfactorily.
(a) Push the center of the applicable water drain valve with the 98A28104000000 PURGER - WATER DRAIN: - Make sure that the water drain valve opens.
NOTE: A rubber shield prevents fuel leakage.
(b) Remove the 98A28104000000 PURGER - WATER DRAIN from the water drain valve.
NOTE: It is necessary to fill the fuel tanks to a minimum of 10% of capacity. This is to cover the water drain valve outlet, until the water drain valves operate satisfactorily.
(a) Push the center of the applicable water drain valve with the 98A28104000002 TOOL - PURGING: - Make sure that the water drain valve opens.
NOTE: A rubber shield prevents fuel leakage.
(b) Remove the 98A28104000002 TOOL - PURGING from the water drain valve. (c) Examine the water drain valve for leaks. If the valve has leaks, use the 98A28104000002 TOOL - PURGING to push (in) and release (out) the center of the valve three or four times. No leaks are permitted.
NOTE: This step is very important at center tank water-drain-valves 94QM and 95QM, where access is not easy.
(d) Do this procedure at all the water drain valves. Subtask 12-32-28-410-079-A
A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the applicable access panels:
