4. Procedure
Subtask 12-13-80-680-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Drain the Starter
   (1) Remove the filler plug (10). Discard the O-ring (20).
   (2) Remove the knurled magnetic plug (50) as follows:
     (a) Push and turn counter-clockwise to release the plug (50).
   (3) Put a CONTAINER 3 L(3/4 USGAL) below the starter.
   (4) Insert the drain adapter 2G7899 STARTER DRAIN ADAPTER by pushing inward and turn clockwise to engage. Wait until the oil drain completely into the container
   (5) Measure the quantity of the drained oil:
     (a) If the oil quantity is more than 0.5 l (0.1321 USgal), the starter is serviceable.
     (b) If the quantity is less than 0.5 l (0.1321 USgal), replace the starter (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-10-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-10-400-002) .
   (6) Carefully examine the oil removed from the starter and the magnetic plug (50) for metal particles (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-10-210-001). Then, remove and discard the two O-rings (60).
NOTE: Fine metal particles show normal wear. Large pieces of metal show internal damage.
   (7) Remove the drain adapter 2G7899 STARTER DRAIN ADAPTER by pushing it inward and turn counter-clockwise
   (8) Clean the knurled magnetic plug (50). Apply a thin layer engine oil (Material No.CP2442) on the two new AIPC 80-11-10-01-100 O-RING (60) and install the two O-rings on the knurled magnetic plug.
   (9) Install the knurled magnetic plug (50):
     (a) Push inward and turn clockwise to engage locking device.

B. Drain the starter (Alternative procedure)
Cut and remove the lockwire. Remove the drain plug (70), and let the oil drain in the CONTAINER 3 L(3/4 USGAL) . Discard the O-ring (80).
   (4) Check the thread of the starter drain port
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE THREAD OF THE STARTER DRAIN PORT IS IN GOOD CONDITION. A BAD CONDITION OF THE THREAD CAN CAUSE AN IMPORTANT OIL LEAKAGE.
     (a) Do a check of the good condition of the thread of the starter drain port.
   (5) Measure the quantity of the drained oil:
     (a) If the oil quantity is more than 0.5 l (0.1321 USgal), the starter is serviceable.
     (b) If the quantity is less than 0.5 l (0.1321 USgal), replace the starter (
Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-10-000-002) (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-10-400-002).
