SWITCHING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General
The ignition system is controlled by:

- the EIU
- ENG START panel 115VU (ENG/MASTER 1 control lever and ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/ IGN START selector switch),
- the overhead panel (selection of manual starting).
2. Description
A. ENG Panel (115VU)
Engine start panel is located on the center pedestal in the cockpit compartment.

(1) ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN START selector switch
It is common to both engine and can be placed in any of the three position CRANK, NORM, and IGN START.

(a) CRANK position
In CRANK position no ignition system is supplied but an engine dry motoring is possible.

(b) MODE/NORM position
This position is selected by the pilot at the end of starting sequence.
In this position the FADEC can select continuous ignition under some flight conditions (i.e. icing, EIU failure).

(c) IGN START position

- normal starting procedure (automatic),
- alternate starting procedure (manual),
- continuous ignition after starting sequence.
(2) Two ENG/MASTER control switches
There is a MASTER control switch for each engine.

(a) With the MASTER control switch in the OFF position:
- the HP fuel shut-off valve is closed,
- the engine is stopped,
(b) The MASTER control switch in ON position enables:
- normal starting procedure (automatic),
- alternate starting procedure (manual),
- wet crank procedure,
- normal operation.
(3) Two annunciator FAULT legends
An amber annunciator FAULT legend dedicated to each engine is supplied by the EIU when:

- a starting failure is detected in AUTO MODE,
- or a disagreement occurs between the HP fuel shut-off valve position and the control.
(4) Two annunciator FIRE legends
A red annunciator legend dedicated to each engine is supplied by the FDU (Fire Detection Unit) when a fire occurs.

B. ENG/MAN START Section of Panel 22VU
It is located on the overhead panel in the cockpit.
There are two pushbutton switches, one for each engine. Each pushbutton switch serves for a manual starting procedure only.
