COWLING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

The cowls enclose the periphery of the engine so as to form the engine nacelle.
The nacelle provides:
  • protection for the engine and the accessories,
  • ensures airflow around the engine during its operation,
  • lightening protection,
  • Hirf and EMI attenuation.
This section is a description of the following cowls:
  • air intake cowl,
  • fan cowl,
  • the fan thrust reversers and the primary exhaust are covered in 78-00-00.
NOTE: Fan cowls and fan thrust reversers are not removed for an engine change.
