3. Description
A. Leading Edge Structure
(1) The leading edge is divided into three sections to make replacement procedures easier. Each section is made of laminations of Glassfiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) over a honeycomb core. The fronts are made stronger to protect them against hail and bird impact damage. The outer surface has a coat of a special paint to prevent erosion. The sections are attached to the forward flanges of the side shells with countersunk screws. Ribs connect the sections to each other.
(2) Each leading edge section has a hoisting point. Each hoisting point has a threaded sleeve, which is bonded into the section. When the hoisting points are not in use a plastic plug is fitted in the threaded sleave and the hoisting points are covered by a self adhesive disc which makes a smooth surface with the leading edge.
