3. System Description
Logo lights 4LY and 3LY are installed on the horizontal stabilizer at zones 334 and 344.
For the GLS filament-light technology, each logo light has a housing that contains a lamp assembly and a step-down transformer.
The step-down transformer changes the aircraft power supply from 115VAC to 28VDC.
For the GLS LEDs-light-unit technology, each logo light has a housing assembly, a lens assembly and an optics assembly.
The filtered 115VAC signal from the EMI filter is changed to an operating current for the LED lights.
The NAV/LOGO toggle switch (3LA), installed on cockpit overhead panel 25VU, controls the logo lights together with the navigation lights. The toggle switch has these positions:
  • 2
  • 1
  • OFF.
When you set toggle switch 3LA to the 1(2) position, the logo lights come on automatically with the NAV1(NAV2) light during the subsequent flight phases:
  • Taxiing
  • Takeoff
  • Landing.

4. Power Supply
115 VAC is supplied to each logo light from the normal busbars 101XP and 202XP. This is controlled through the circuit breakers 1LY and 2LY. The circuit breakers 1LY and 2LY are installed on the circuit breaker panel 122VU.

5. Operation
With the NAV & LOGO toggle switch (3LA) set to 1 or 2, 115VAC is supplied to relays 6LA and 7LA. When the flaps are lowered to 15 degrees or more, or the landing gear struts are compressed, a ground signal is received. This energizes the coil of relay 5LY.
For the GLS filament-technology, power is then supplied to the step-down transformers of the light assembly. From these transformers, a decreased voltage of 28VDC is supplied to logo light 3LY(4LY) which causes the logo light to come on.
For the GLS LEDs-light-unit technology, the EMI filter and the power-factor corrector LED-driver give 115VAC which:
  • Is supplied to logo light 3LY(4LY).
  • Causes the logo light to come on.
When the landing gear is retracted, and the flaps are retracted to less than 15 degrees, the ground signal is not received. In this condition, the logo light goes off. When toggle switch 3LA is set to OFF, relays 6LA and 7LA are de-energized which causes the logo light to go off.
