If smoke occurs (Ref. AMM D/O 26-16-00-00):
If smoke occurs (Ref. AMM D/O 26-16-00-00):
The cartridge in the outlet of the applicable bottle fires the explosive charges and releases extinguishing agent into the related cargo-compartment.
At the same time, self-hold relay 23WX - BTL1 PRIORITY-RELAY FWD-CC or 22WX - BTL1 PRIORITY-RELAY AFT-CC comes on. The cartridges in bottle 2 can only fire the explosive charges when the relays are on.
If you select AGENT 1, bottle 1 releases the contents directly into the related cargo-compartment.
If you select AGENT 2, bottle 2 releases the contents through an Extended Operations (ETOPS) metering system into the related cargo-compartment.
If the fire bottle releases the contents, the contacts of the bottle pressure switch open and give a signal to the SDF of the CIDS Director (CIDS-SDF) and relay 16WX (bottle 1) or 17WX (bottle 2).
If the relay opens, a ground contact to annunciator 12WX - BTL 1 or BTL 2 closes and the indicator light comes on.
If you select AGENT 1, a signal is sent to TDC - relay 14WX (TIMER DISCH BTL2) and the signal input TIMER (DISCH BTL2) in the CIDS-SDF starts the CIDS-SDF output signal for DISCH BTL2 after 1 hour.
The CIDS-SDF also sends a signal to the Flight Warning Computer (FWC) and to the CFDS. The FWC changes the ECAM upper display to AGENT DISCH (green). The CFDS contains the low-pressure data.
If smoke occurs (Ref. AMM D/O 26-16-00-00):
- The related red SMOKE/DISCH indication light 11WH or 12WH comes on
- The MASTER WARNING lights flash
- You hear a Continous Repetitive Chime (CRC)
- On the ECAM upper display unit the related message:
SMOKE FWD CARGO SMOKE
AGENT...........DISCH
or
SMOKE AFT CARGO SMOKE
AGENT...........DISCH
comes on.
If smoke occurs (Ref. AMM D/O 26-16-00-00):
- The related red SMOKE/DISCH indication light 11WH or 12WH comes on
- The MASTER WARNING lights flash
- You hear a Continous Repetitive Chime (CRC)
- On the ECAM upper display unit the related message:
SMOKE FWD CARGO SMOKE
AGENT...........DISCH
or
SMOKE AFT CARGO SMOKE
AFT ISOL VALVE....OFF
AGENT...........DISCH
comes on.
If smoke occurs (Ref. AMM D/O 26-16-00-00), the Smoke Detection Control Unit (SDCU) sends signals to the cockpit:
- The Flight Warning Computer (FWC)
- The related red indication light FWD/SMOKE 11WH or AFT/SMOKE 12WH comes on
- The MASTER WARNING lights flash
- You hear a Continuous Repetitive Chime (CRC)
- On the Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitoring (ECAM) upper display unit shows the related message:
SMOKE FWD CARGO SMOKE
AGENT 1.........DISCH
or
SMOKE AFT CARGO SMOKE
AFT ISOL VALVE....OFF
AGENT 1.........DISCH, - The ventilation controller (Ref. AMM D/O 21-20-00-00) closes the related cargo-compartment isolation valves.
The pilot operates the FWD AGENT DISCH toggle switch 5WX or the AFT AGENT DISCH toggle switch 6WX to the AGENT 1 position. A current detonates the explosive charge in the cartridge of bottle 1, the DISCH 1 legend in the AGENT DISCH INDICATOR LIGHT 12WX comes on.
The explosion create a shock wave, which fractures the rupture disc and releases the extinguishing agent into the applicable cargo compartment. As the bottle 1 discharges, the contact of the bottle pressure switch opens and gives a signal to the SDCU and to the relay BTL 1 PRESS INVERTER 16WX. This relay 16WX gives a signal about a lampdriver in 11LP (70VU) to the amber DISCH 1 legend in the indicator 12WX (the light comes on) and to the TIMER DISCH BTL2 relay 14WX.
After a time delay of approx. 60 minutes, the TIMER DISCH BTL 2 relay 14WX closes and the signal TIMER DISCH BTL 2 in the SDCU activates a SDCU output signal for DISCH BTL 2. The amber legend DISCH AGENT 2 in the indicator light 13WX comes on.
The pilot operates the FWD AGENT DISCH toggle switch 5WX or the AFT AGENT DISCH toggle switch 6WX to the AGENT 2 position. The extinguishing agent from bottle 2 flows through a flow metering system whitch makes sure that the correct concentration of extinguishing agent is kept in the related cargo-compartment. The pressure in bottle 2 decreases slowly. When the pressure in bottle 2 has reduced sufficiently the contact of the bottle pressure switch opens and gives a signal to the SDCU and to the relay BTL 2 PRESS INVERTER 17WX. This relay 17WX gives a signal directly to the amber DISCH 2 legend in the indicator 12WX and the light comes on.
If the agent from bottle 2 is released correctly, the SDCU deleted the signal DISCH BTL 2 and the amber legend DISCH AGENT 2 in the indicator 13WX goes off.
NOTE: During the same moment as the pilot operates the toggle switch (FWD AGENT DISCH 5WX or AFT AGENT DISCH 6WX) in AGENT 1 position, the BOTTLE 1 PRIORITY self-holdrelay (FWD CC 23WX or AFT CC 22WX) is activated. The cartridges in bottle 2 cannot be detonated without activation of the priority relays.
If smoke occurs (Ref. AMM D/O 26-16-00-00): - The related red SMOKE/DISCH indication light 11WH or 12WH comes on
- The MASTER WARNING lights flash
- You hear a Continous Repetitive Chime (CRC)
- On the ECAM upper display unit the related message:
SMOKE FWD CARGO SMOKE
AGENT...........DISCH
or
SMOKE AFT CARGO SMOKE
AFT ISOL VALVE....OFF
AGENT...........DISCH
comes on.
If smoke occurs (Ref. AMM D/O 26-16-00-00):
- The related red SMOKE/DISCH indication light 11WH or 12WH comes on
- The MASTER WARNING lights flash
- You hear a Continous Repetitive Chime (CRC)
- On the ECAM upper display unit the related message:

- You hear a Continous Repetitive Chime (CRC)
- On the ECAM upper display unit the related message:
SMOKE FWD CARGO SMOKE
AGENT 1.........DISCH
or

AGENT 1.........DISCH
comes on.
If a smoke warning occurs, lift the guard of the toggle switch 5WX or 6WX on the panel 22VU. Then set the toggle switch to AGENT 1 or AGENT 2. The cartridge in the outlet of the selected bottle detonates and releases extinguishing agent into the related cargo-compartment. At the same time, the self-hold relay 23WX - BTL1 PRIORITY RELAY FWD CC or the 22WX - BTL1 PRIORITY RELAY AFT CC is activated. The cartridges in bottle 2 can only detonate when the priority relays are activated. If AGENT 1 is selected, bottle 1 releases its content directly into the related cargo-compartment. If AGENT 2 is selected, bottle 2 releases its content through an Extended Operations (ETOPS) metering system into the related cargo-compartment. If the fire bottle releases its content, the contacts of the bottle pressure switch open and give a signal to the Smoke Detection Function of the CIDS Director (CIDS-SDF) and the relay 16WX (bottle 1) or 17WX (bottle 2). If the relay opens, a ground contact to the annunciator 12WX - DISCH 1 or DISCH 2 closes and the indicator light comes on. If you select AGENT 1, a signal is sent to the TDC- Relay 14WX (TIMER DISCH BTL2) and the signal input TIMER (DISCH BTL2) in the CIDS-SDF to activate the CIDS-SDF output signal for DISCH BTL2 after 1 hour. The CIDS-SDF also sends a signal to the Flight Warning Computer (FWC) and to the CFDS. The FWC changes the ECAM upper display to AGENT DISCH (green). The CFDS stores the low-pressure data.
- The related red SMOKE indication-light 11WH or 12WH comes on

comes on.
