3. System Description
A. General Characteristics
The lavatories are installed as a set or movable units. The set lavatories are hard points attached on the floor structure. The movable lavatories are attached to the seat rails in the different installation areas at an interval of 1 inch. A tie-rod attaches the upper attachment point of the lavatory to the aircraft structure. Each lavatory has a single blade door or as an option, a bi-folding door is installed in the specified lavatories.
B. Structure
The lavatory is assembled as a modular unit with the ceiling, sidewalls, rearwall and floorpan. The basic structure is made from the sandwich panels. The extrusions are bonded and/or attached to the panels with the screws. The kick strips and the corner strips are installed to prevent damage to the lavatory.
C. Lavatory Equipment
Different items of equipment are installed in each lavatory for the comfort of the passengers and the crew (Ref. AMM D/O 25-45-00-00).
D. Lavatory Doors
(1) Single Blade Door
A single blade door that opens out is installed on the lavatory unit.
Lavatories installed near an exit have lavatory doors installed such that these do not cause blockage in evacuation of the passengers.
A minimum clearance of 21 inches is necessary to let the door open with no blockage.
(2) Bi-folding Door
A bi-folding door that opens in and closes automatically is installed in the specified lavatories as an option.
(3) For details of the door(s) (Ref. AMM D/O 25-45-00-00).
