CRANKING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
1. General
The pressurized air supplied to the Air Turbine Starter (ATS) is controlled by the Starter Air Valve (SAV) upstream of the ATS and operates an axial turbine contained in the ATS.
The ATS is installed on the forward side of the Accessory Gearbox (AGB). The ATS converts pressurized air passing through the SAV into the driving torque required to rotate the engine core to a self-sustained speed.
The Starter Air Duct (SAD), the SAV, the ATS and the AGB are attached with coupling clamps.
