OIL TANK - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
1. General
The oil tank stores oil used to lubricate and cool the rotating components of the engine. It is installed on the right-hand side of the Fan Case at the 4 o'clock aft looking forward position.
The oil tank is made from stainless steel sheet metal and is attached to the fan frame through 3 brackets (covered in zonal).
The oil tank features an inner bulkhead baffle providing rigidity near the mount points as well as reduction in oil sloshing within the oil tank. The inner bulkhead baffle is also used as internal support structure for the Oil Level Sensor (OLS). The size of the bulkhead baffle openings is very important compared to the size of a potential particle. A clogging of the bulkhead baffle is impossible.
The oil level sensor is mounted on the top of the Oil Tank and is bolted to a machined boss.
The oil level sensor has an electrical interface to the engine.
