EXHAUST NOZZLE - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

A. General
The exhaust nozzle assembly is attached to the aft end of the engine. The exhaust nozzle gives the aerodynamic flow path for the cold and the hot flow at the engine exhaust.

2. Detailed Description
A. Exhaust Nozzle Assembly
The nozzle system is an aerodynamic structure. The inner skin of the exhaust nozzle guides the hot engine flow. The outer skin of the exhaust nozzle guides the cold engine flow.
The exhaust nozzle and the exhaust engine case are attached with bolts. Three spigots are used to align the exhaust nozzle with the exhaust engine case.
The exhaust nozzle is designed with finger seals to sustain fire and to provide the fireproof barrier in the upper quadrant.
The main function of the exhaust nozzle pad is to ensure a minimum path for core ventilation in front of the thrust reverser structure. Two drain holes provide the drainage of the exhaust nozzle area. The drain holes are at the lowest point on the outer and inner skins of the exhaust nozzle.
