ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL (EEC) COOLING SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
1. General
The Electronic Engine Control (EEC) cooling blower system contains the following sub-systems:
  • An assembly of rigid and flexible pipes
  • Two blowers
  • One bracket (covered in zonal).
** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
2. System Description
The EEC cooling system is part of the fan compartment ventilation system. The inlet is situated on the fan cowl. It forces external fresh air to flow into the two EECs, in order to cool them down when the aircraft is on ground, at low speed.

EEC ventilation system consists of the following:
  • An assembly of rigid and flexible pipes
  • Two blowers
  • One bracket (covered in zonal).
  • This system hardware is removed via SB 72-0071 or 72-0191. This system is no longer activated post SB 73-0034 (FCS6 software or later) independent of whether it is installed on engine.

3. Component Description
A. EEC Cooling Ducts
The pipe inlet is installed in the engine inlet which then splits in two ways, each one equipped with a blower, merges and splits again to cool down both EECs via the Plenums (MSI 73-29-00).
Flexible pipes are introduced in order to add degrees of freedom in the assembly and ease the removal and installation of the blowers. They are made of silicone and are attached to rigid pipes by collars.
Rigid pipes, made of titanium, are fixed by brackets and collars.
The bellows are flexible and can retract on themselves, in order to release the blower inlets and ease their removal and installation.
B. EEC Cooling Blower
Two blowers are installed in parallel. Each of them features:
  • A housing (electrical connector, air inlet and outlet duct)
  • A fan, composed of a front and rear impeller
  • An electric motor driving the fan
  • Internal electronic control system and speed monitoring with associated protections
  • A check valve to prevent from reverse delta pressure in flight.

Each of the blowers is fixed to a bracket with four bolts. The bracket is attached to the fan frame.
