TRANSFER GEARBOX (TGB) ASSEMBLY - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General
The Transfer Gearbox (TGB) module provides power transmission between the Inlet Gearbox (IGB) module and Accessory Gearbox (AGB) module.
The TGB module has the following major assemblies:

- Outer radial shaft
- TGB
- Transfer shaft.
2. Component Description
A. Outer Radial Shaft
The outer radial shaft is made of alloy steel. It is hollow and measures approximately 21.96 in. (0.56 m) long. One end is externally splined and links with the inner radial shaft, and the other is internally splined and links with the TGB input bevel gear.

B. TGB Assembly
(1) The TGB is installed on the fan frame at the 8 o'clock position aft looking forward. It consists of a housing and a couple of bevel gears, the input bevel gear (43-tooth gearshaft) and the horizontal bevel gear (40-tooth gearshaft).
(2) The TGB housing is made of aluminum alloy. It is attached to the fan frame with six attachment bolts. The upper part of the housing consists of a bearing support assembly that engages in the fan frame. The TGB housing has three oil nozzles for the lubrication of the bevel gears and bearings.
(3) The upper part of the TGB housing houses the input bevel gear that includes the bearing support assembly, the ball bearing, and two roller bearings. The splines of the input bevel gear is connected with the splines of outer radial shaft.
(4) The N2 speed sensor is installed on the transfer tube.
C. Transfer Shaft Assembly
(1) The transfer shaft assembly supplies power transmission between the TGB and the AGB. It consists of the transfer tube, the slider and the horizontal drive shaft.
(2) The transfer tube is made of steel alloy. It is assembled with a slider made of aluminum alloy. They house and protect the transfer shaft and the horizontal bevel gear assembly. The transfer tube is bolted to the TGB housing and the slider ensures connection with the AGB through two retainer segments.
(3) The transfer shaft is made of steel alloy. It is splined at both ends and drives the AGB gears through the starter spur gear (AGB 30-tooth gearshaft). It is attached to the starter spur gear by a retainer ring.
