LPT STAGE 1 NOZZLE ASSEMBLY - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General
The Lower Pressure Turbine (LPT) stage 1 nozzle module is located between the aft end of the turbine center frame and the forward end of the LPT rotor and stator assembly. The low pressure turbine stage 1 nozzle module includes:

- Flange support
- Rear flange
- Rear plate
- Sealing plate
- Seal support
- Insulation stage 1 plate
- Sealing stage 1 outer plate
- Sealing stage 1 inner plate
- Forward transition duct inner seal.
2. System Description
A. LPT Stage 1 Nozzle
The LPT stage 1 nozzle feeds the next stage with the correct airflow angle.

B. Turbine Center Frame Transition Duct Seal
The function of the turbine center frame transition duct seal, support flange, the support seal, the flange rear, the rear plate and the sealing plates is to seal the LPT cavity.

C. Stage 1 Inner and Outer Sealing Plates
The stage 1 inner sealing plates seals the flowpath. The stage 1 outer sealing plates seals the flowpath and provides a thermal protection of the turbine center frame.

D. Stage 1 Insulation Plate
The stage 1 insulation plate provides a thermal protection of the turbine center frame and contains the air coming from stage 4 HPC to cool the forward flange of LPT case.

3. Operation
There are 36 stage 1 nozzle segments. The nozzle segments are attached to the turbine center frame by the following way:
The upper part is tightened between the turbine center frame and the LPT case and the lower part is tightened between the rear flange and the support flange.
The rear flange, the support flange and the rear plate are bolted together.
The support flange is bolted to the turbine center frame transition duct seal which is bolted to the turbine center frame.
There are 36 stage 1 nozzle segments. The nozzle segments are attached to the turbine center frame by the following way:
