2. System Description
A. Turbine Center Frame
The turbine center frame assembly provides radial support at the aft end of the HPT rotor. The turbine center frame also supports the LPT transition duct between the HPT module and the LPT module. The transition duct forms the core engine flow path between the HPT and LPT while protecting the turbine center frame structure from hot gases.
B. LPT Transition Duct
The LPT transition duct ensures a smooth aerodynamic air flow between the HPT and LPT. The LPT transition duct forms the flow-path between the HPT exit and LPT entrance, and serves to protect the turbine center frame from flow-path gases. Within the LPT transition duct there are 16 transition duct fairings used to direct air flow to the LPT.
C. Turbine Center Frame Transition Duct Seal
The turbine center frame transition duct seal protects the non-gas-path surfaces from gas path gases and prevent gas-path leakage around the LPT stage 1 nozzle (Ref. AMM D/O 72-56-00-00).
D. Aft and Forward Seals
The aft and forward seals are used to protect the back side of the stage 2 HPT rotor disk from flow-path gases and ensure purge air is available to prevent flow-path gases from leaking between the stage 2 rotating blade and the stationary turbine center frame.
E. No. 4 Bearing Forward Rotating Oil Seal
The No 4 bearing forward stationary oil seal in conjunction with the No. 4 bearing forward rotating oil seal is used for oil containment for the No 4 cylindrical roller bearing.

3. Operation
The struts of turbine center frame and the LPT stage 1 nozzle guide vanes are cooled with High Pressure Compressor (HPC) 4th stage bleed air through external tubing. The turbine center frame struts also contain oil system supply and scavenge manifolds to and from the B-sump bearing cavity. The B-sump cavity contains the No. 4 roller bearing which supports the aft HPT N2 rotor.
