FAN CASE MODULE - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General
The fan case module is made up of 3D composite carbon material.
The fan case is bolted between inlet cowl and the fan frame.
The engine air inlet cowl is attached to the front flange of the fan case by 36 bolts.
The rear flange is bolted to the front flange of the fan frame by 113 bolts.
The flange contact areas are protected with glass fiber layer for galvanic protection with inlet cowl in aluminum material and as a wear protection layer with fan frame flange titanium material.
The fan case is draped within two fiberglass layers used for fire self-extinguishing properties.

2. System Description
A. Fan Case Composition

- An abradable assembly made up of abradable epoxy liner bonded on carbon layers. Carbon epoxy layers are bonded on honeycomb and the honeycomb is bonded on the fan case.
- A 360 degrees forward acoustic shroud.
- Six rear acoustic panels.
(1) Forward Acoustic Shroud
The forward acoustic shroud is a one-piece barrel, made up of honeycomb and carbon fiber skin. It is attached to the inner surface of the fan case through 13 brackets.
The two brackets at 12 o'clock and around 6 o'clock features location holes for clock positioning.

(2) Rear Acoustic Panels
The six rear acoustic panels made up of honeycomb sandwiched with carbon layer are installed by six bolts on the fan and the fan frame shroud.
