SPOILER 1 - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
1. General
The spoiler 1 is installed on the fixed structure of the trailing edge. It is connected to the rear false spar, inboard of the kink position.
The spoiler 1 is one of five spoilers which are extended or retracted for these functions:
The drive mechanism of the spoilers is electrically controlled (Ref. AMM D/O 27-90-00-00) and uses hydraulic power to extend or retract the surfaces (Ref. AMM D/O 27-64-00-00).

2. Component Description
The spoiler is a wedge-shaped structure. It has carbon fiber top and bottom skins, sides and a trailing edge profile, bonded to a honeycomb core. There are four machined aluminum-alloy attachment-fittings. These are the inboard, outboard and center hinges and the spoiler actuator attachment-fitting. The actuator attachment-fitting is installed within the center hinge. The spoiler is connected to the rear false spar by the hinges.
A titanium alloy rubbing strip, attached to the trailing edge of the spoiler, prevents damage to the spoiler when the inboard flap is retracted. Seals are installed at the inboard and outboard ends and along the leading edge of the spoiler.
