PYLON BOX - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General
The pylon box is the primary structure of the pylon.
The pylon box is attached to the wing at three points.
It has attachment points at two locations to hold the engine.

2. Description
A. Pylon Box Structure
The pylon box structure has these structural components:
The pylon box structure has these structural components:
- One lower spar
- One front upper spar
- One rear upper spar
- One left panel with access doors
- One right panel with access doors
- One pyramid assembly (which includes the right forward-lateral spar and the left forward-lateral spar and has the forward centering pins)
- Ten primary ribs, RIB1 to RIB10, with these primary ribs:
- RIB5 with the pylon-to-wing forward attach-fittings and the aft centering pins
- RIB10 with the pylon-to-wing aft attach-fittings.
B. Pylon Box-to-Wing Attachments
The pylon box is attached to the wing with:
All the sleeves/threaded pins are made of stainless steel.
The pylon box is attached to the wing with:
- The pylon-to-wing forward attach-fittings at RIB5 (these attach-fittings have four shackles that are made of stainless steel and four sleeve/threaded pin assemblies)
- A spigot fitting with a bearing in the rear upper spar between RIB5 and RIB6
- The pylon-to-wing aft attach-fittings at RIB10 (these attach-fittings have two shackles that are made of titanium alloy and three sleeve/threaded pin assemblies).
All the sleeves/threaded pins are made of stainless steel.
C. Centering Pins
The pylon box has six centering pins:

- Two forward centering pins (these are installed on the pyramid assembly of the pylon box and align the forward engine mounts with the pylon box)
- Four aft centering pins (these are installed at RIB5 of the pylon box and align the aft engine mounts with the pylon box).
D. Access Doors
The pylon box has five doors which give access to the different systems:

- The forward access doors are on:
- The left side of the pylon box, between RIB2 and RIB3
- The right side of the pylon box, between RIB1 and RIB2. - The middle access doors are on the right side of the pylon box, between RIB4 and RIB5.
- The aft access doors are on:
- The left side of the pylon box, between RIB6 and RIB7
- The right side of the pylon box, between RIB7 and RIB8.
