ACCESS DOORS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
1. General
A. Avionics Compartment Doors 811, 812, 822, 824
The doors giving access to the avionics compartment are rectangular.
It is possible to open the avionics compartment forward and aft doors from the inside of the avionics compartment. These doors are fitted with inner handles connected to the locking mechanism.
The hold-open mechanism of the avionics compartment doors consists of:
  • for the forward door: a rubber mechanical stop
  • for the lateral left door: a locking pin which engages into a rubber mechanical stop
  • for the aft door: a gas spring unit
  • for the lateral right door: a rubber mechanical stop.
Each door has a different design. However the locking mechanism is identical on the four avionics compartment doors.

2. Description
A. Structure
(1) The access doors are made of aluminium alloy. The main structure consists of longerons to which a sheet of metal is riveted. The doors are hinged to the aircraft by means of two hinge arms.
(2) Sealing of door/fuselage interface during closing is effected by means of a perforated seal which inflates under pressurization conditions.
B. Locking mechanism
(1) The closing mechanism is located on the door inner face and is secured to the longerons by two angle brackets. The mechanism consists of two rods and a swivel pin with a handle and an eccentric piece. A spring rod forms an overcenter device which holds the other rod fitted with a roller in pushed position (door closed).
(2) The two rods are connected to the swivel pin via a spherical bearing. Only the rigid rod bearing against the fuselage is fitted with an end roller. The rods are attached to the swivel handle by bolts and nuts. The rigid rod is guided by a bronze bushing installed on a bracket secured to the structure.
(a) A proximity switch serves for checking whether the door is closed or not.

3. Operation
A. Door closing :
Turn the handle which drives the internal mechanism swivel pin. The rigid rod then moves with translational motion. This motion is stopped in its final position by the overcenter device formed by the spring rod. Locking is achieved through retraction of the opening/closing handle in its housing.
B. Door opening
Unlock swivel handle by pressing "PUSH" pushbutton in handle. When the handle moves, the overcenter locking device is released and the mechanism operates in reverse order of closing.
