REPAIRS OF CORRODED AREAS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
1. General
Corrosion can have an important effect on the safe operation of the aircraft, its components and structure. When corrosion is found, you must remove it immediately. You must do an inspection of the area of the corrosion before you start the repair.
It is very important that all the corrosion particles are removed. Remaining corrosion can become a starting point for more corrosion.
Refer to ASRM 51-74-00 for more data.

2. Description
Corrosion usually starts on the material surface. It then goes to the material center and makes its solid substance unserviceable.
Refer to AMM 51-74-11 08 for the removal of:

Refer to AMM 51-74-11 08 for the removal of:
- The general corrosion
- The corrosion on the unpainted alloy
- The corrosion on the window frames.
3. Permitted Oxidation
For the cadmium plated parts (for example bolts NAS1303 thru NAS1320, NAS6603 thru NAS6620 and NAS6703 thru NAS6720, screws NAS1801 and NAS1796, washers NAS1149D, NAS1149E and NAS1149F, cotter pin MS24665, nuts NAS1726, NAS1291 and NSA5060, bushes, rod end AS81935, etc.), the light oxidation of the chromate treatment is permitted without repair.
(1) You can see only white powder (no red rust).
(2) You can see the cadmium plating (yellow or silver gray color) after the cleaning of dirty parts or parts with fluid contamination with cleaning agent (Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material Ref. 08BAA9) or Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material Ref. 08BBB1)) and a clean cloth (Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material Ref. 14SBA1)) or nylon brush made moist.
(a) The initial color of the cadmium plating with chromate treatment is yellow in a range from iridescent bronze to brown (olive drab, yellow and forest green included).
(b) The initial color of the cadmium plating with no chromate treatment is silver gray.
