1. General
For APU with oil heater, the oil heater 2KT is installed on the APU gearbox. The heater increases the temperature of the oil in the gearbox when the oil temperature is too low.

3. System Description
An oil temperature switch monitors the oil temperature in the gearbox. If the oil temperature decreases below 15.56 deg.C (60.01 deg.F), the temperature switch closes and 115 V AC is supplied to a heater coil. This increases the APU oil temperature during cold soak conditions. When the oil temperature increases to above 48.89 deg.C (120.00 deg.F) the temperature switch then opens and stops the 115 V AC supply to the heater coil. For APU with oil heater, the oil heater 2KT has no direct connection to the ECB 59KD.

4. Power Supply
For APU with oil heater, the oil heater gets the electrical power from the aircraft electrical system. It is supplied with 115 V AC from the SERVICE BUS 214XP through the circuit breaker 1KT.

6. Component Description
For APU with oil heater, the oil heater has an oil temperature switch and an heater coil.
The oil temperature switch is a 'thermal temperature-delay switch' which measures the temperature of the oil in the reservior.
The heater coil is made of a nickel iron alloy and uses 115 V AC power to increase the oil temperature during cold soak condition.

7. Operation Control and Indicating
The oil heater is energized when the oil temperature in the reservoir decreases below 15.56 deg.C (60.01 deg.F). Then the temperature switch closes and 115 V AC supplied to the heater coil. This increases the APU oil temperature during cold soak conditions. When the oil temperature increases to above 48.89 deg.C (120.00 deg.F) the temperature switch opens and the oil heater is de-energized. The oil heater is de-energized when the APU MASTER SW p/bsw is in the ON position.

8. BITE Test
The oil heater is indirectly monitored in flight during cold soak condition via the oil temperature sensor and the FCU fuel-temperature sensor.
An oil heater fault is detected when the fuel temperature is less than -10 deg.C (14.00 deg.F) and the oil temperature is less than -20 deg.C (-4.00 deg.F).
