GROUNDING POINTS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
1. General
The grounding (earthing) operation is for the electrical continuity between the aircraft and the earth.

The bonding operation is for the electrical continuity between the aircraft and a ground equipment or between an equipment and the aircraft structure.

During the maintenance, it is recommended to do the grounding (earthing) of the aircraft.
It is mandatory to do the grounding (earthing) of the aircraft when you do maintenance tasks with equipment externally supplied from domestic or industrial network.
You must electrically ground (earth) the aircraft when in storm conditions, refer to AMM 20-17-00-PB201.

During the refuel/defuel or oxygen servicing operations:
  • Bonding is mandatory
  • You must obey the local area regulations for the grounding (earthing).

Static electricity from the flight or the environmental conditions on ground (wind with dust, sand, etc.) is discharged through the tires.
NOTE: Tire contact with the ground is sufficient for electrostatic discharge but not for electrical safety (grounding/earthing).

For aircraft grounding (earthing) and bonding, refer to AMM 12-34-24-PB201.
Grounding (earthing) points are:
  • on the nose landing gear,
  • on the main landing gear.
Grounding (earthing) points (if installed) are:
  • on the wing upper surface,
  • on the engine nacelles,
  • adjacent to the high pressure connector.
